You get to know the Maori people better - how they lived before and how they're living now, you can ask questions and learn a lot. If you want to understand them better, see the culture, the issues, the everyday life - that's for you! By visiting the Whaka village you directly support the Maori people (while Te Puia is owned by the Crown). Additionally, you can walk around and see many hot water and mud pools, and see the geyser from 2 different lookouts. I recommend going to the top of the hill - do the full walk to the village lookout, it's worth it! Only negative point is that there's not much food around - only in the cafe, where you should pre-order the hangi meal, plus the only gluten-free food is the corn and it was sold out.

The tour provider was excellent and provided friendly service. Although I wish we could have spent just a little more time at Hobbiton, getting to experience Rotarua and the Maroi experience was really enlightening. I also very much appreciated my guide, Daryl's, commentary about the history of New Zealand and his perspective of Maroi culture. I took his advice and used the phrase "Kia Ora" to greet, thank, and say goodbye to people for the rest of the trip. I will never forget how excited one of the servers at the Sky Tower bar was to here some random American thank him with a kia ora. To connect with other people in the world is the reason I travel, and Daryl helped me to do that.

We had a wonderful trip with Daryl. This was the first time we visited New Zealand, with a 7-year old kid, the best choice is to go on a small size tour. Hobbiton is amazing place and also the Rotorua Te Puia geyser, definitely worth to see. Daryl is a great guide, he arranged everything perfectly, we had enough time to explore both places. He dropped us off at Rotorua accommodation, Rotorua is a nice spa city to stay.

great day trip, we saw many locations that I might not have visited by myself, and our guide Linda gave great explanations and answered all of our questions.

Alessandro was a fantastic guide. He was giving great facts and your explanations the whole drive, was funny, and kind. Def a great guide for cheeky kiwi
