Around the lake Albania from Ohrid and Struga.

Around the lake Albania from Ohrid and Struga.

Why not visit an extra country during your holiday? Until not so long ago, it was impossible to visit Albania because of a strict communistic regime. It was even called the “North Korea” of Europe. However nowadays, the country is liberated, you will have the opportunity to see the differences between the neighbors, North Macedonia and Albania. So, hop on, and trace the visible remains of the dictatorship that ruled Albania. By bus or minivan, you will visit the village of Lin, to experience the true Albanian local way of living. At first you will have the opportunity for a small coffee break. Active yourself with a short walk in this ancient village and optional you will have the opportunity to walk until you explore the ancient roman basilica and the astonishing view around it. We highly recommend to do so! On the way to our next stop, you will visit the bunkers that were built by the communistic regime of Enver Hoxha. This beautiful spot is a perfect place for memorable pictures. Afterwards, the tour will continue to the city of Pogradec. From here on, you will visit the local marketplace, the town park, the boulevard and statues. While walking our guide will provide cultural explanation about the patriarchal and modern differences in the Albanian culture. Before heading back to Ohrid, you will have some free time for lunch and a photo stop will be made at the prehistorical Bay of Bones. Interesting note: While making a whole lap around the lake of Ohrid, be aware how the colors of the water changes while driving.

🌟 An unforgettable experience at Lake Ohrid and Lin! 🌟 I had the pleasure of joining a wonderful trip to Lake Ohrid and the picturesque village of Lin. The views throughout the journey were simply breathtaking – the nature around the lake is magical and calming. One of the highlights of the day was enjoying a traditional Albanian lunch, full of rich flavors and clearly prepared with care. It was a true delight to savor authentic local dishes while taking in a stunning lake view. I also want to highlight our guide, a very polite and professional young man who led us with great attention and shared interesting stories along the way. Thanks to him, the whole experience was even more enjoyable and informative.

We had an amazing day cycling around Lake Ohrid. 92km in one day was a challenge for us as we are not regular cyclists. The elevation is 1000m however the electric bikes made the hills a breeze and the views of the lake were stunning. The company were well organised, we were well looked after and our guide was so calm when we encountered problems (we had 2 tyre punctures!) Don’t forget your passport, this is needed at border crossings. Our guide carried a battery pack to recharge the bikes at lunch however most of us made it round without needing to recharge. I highly recommend this trip if you’re looking for a full day adventure around the lake.

The variety of the day. First, a beautiful location for coffee. Then to a very authentic Albanian village called Lin, followed by the very different city of Progadec with its market, boulevard, and delicious lunch in a beautiful restaurant. On the way back, we saw the Bay of Bones. The driver was fantastic and the two tour guides knew so much and were super friendly! They had lots of interesting facts.
