Plettenberg Bay: 1.5-Hour Wildlife Family Tour

3. Plettenberg Bay: 1.5-Hour Wildlife Family Tour

Plant the love of wildlife in your children on a safari adventure at Tenikwa Wildlife Rehabilitation & Awareness Centre. On this 1.5-hour tour, you and your young family will be introduced to an array of South Africa’s wildest animals. Prepare to be entertained and inspired with an introduction to the conservation efforts of the facility before setting off to meet meerkats and learning why—despite their cute demeanor—they make miserable pets. Walk through the owl house and visit Digger the friendly warthog. After this, you will visit penguins and other marine animals. The family will then be taken to visit the African wildcats, which you will have to spot using techniques and trail signs taught to you by your expert guide. Spot slender servals and camouflaged caracals on a walkway tour that leads up to the leopard and cheetah enclosures, designed to safely get you up close and personal with these majestic creatures. Finally, bid farewell to a grand white lion before your kids are awarded an EcoKidz certificate.

Plettenberg Bay: Tenikwa Wildlife Center Guided Tour

4. Plettenberg Bay: Tenikwa Wildlife Center Guided Tour

Be welcomed on arrival at the center and meet your personal guide, who will introduce you to the center and its conservation work with an educational video. Visit the Meerkat Meander afterward, where meerkats who have been confiscated have found a permanent home. Entering the leopard walkway with your guide, you will need to search to find the well-camouflaged leopard. See the cheetahs next, and learn about how their numbers are diminishing in the wild. Have amazing opportunities to take photographs of the cheetahs, leopards, caracals, and servals. Get a chance to go inside some of the enclosures (where it's safe), and be in close proximity to the cats. Finish your tour with a visit to the magnificent white lion when you take a walk high above on the lion walkway. Enjoy a leisurely-paced tour and plenty of opportunities to talk to your guide about the conservation work being done at the center and the animals that call it home. Re-visit your favorite cats a second time if you'd like.

The experience was fantastic! It's great to get up close and personal with the seals. Stuart was great at making you feel relaxed and he was very informative. You get a good amount of time in the water with the curious seals. I'd highly recommend, and I'd do it again!

Very helpful and enthusiastic guide, can't remember his name. It was for us a new experience to see such wonderful animals, and how they have been rescued, and being looked after so well. Well done to the team over there!

Unique way to get up close to the seals! Thousands of them and they are not afraid to get close to you.
