Palazzo Pitti: Top 5 (tour) highlights

The Palazzo Pitti was home to some of the most important Italian families. It stands today in Renaissance splendor, the largest museum block in Florence, a wonderland open to the public. You cannot miss these enchanting highlights at Palazzo Pitti, Florence.

Boboli Gardens & Palazzo Pitti Grotto of Buontalenti

Some of the most memorable highlights are not within the complex. There's a reason these gardens are called Italy’s Versailles.

The Palatine Gallery

As the main gallery, it is chocked full of Palazzo Pitti history. View the Renaissance greats in high baroque-style rooms of ornate ceilings, elaborate stucco and frescoes.

Museo delle Porcellane

Go to Michelangelo’s Cavaliere, a Palazzo Pitti architectural highlight. Inside you’ll find one of Europe’s finest porcelain museums complete with Sevres, Meissen and Vincennes.

The Museo Degli Argenti

The Medici Treasury holds fine jewelry, precious crystal, ivory vases, and more, by some of the most significant Italian and European workshops of the 17th to 20th century.

The Costume Gallery

This fabulous documentation of Italian fashion, especially theatrical costumes, dates from the 16th century to present and is housed in the Palazzina della Meridiana wing.

Pitti Palace: Our Tips

How much time to spend?

You could easily spend an entire day strolling through the gardens, popping in and out of each wonderful museum. Budget at least two hours to breeze through the essentials, and add an hour if you plan to explore the gardens. Take note that entry into each building is not allowed one hour before closing.

Admission: Buy a package ticket

Each museum costs up to 8.50€. If you plan to see multiple collections, buy the Palazzo Pitti biglietti cumulative, an all-access pass for 11.50€ that will let you into the gardens, all of the galleries and the royal apartments for three days.

A must-visit, especially the 'Modern' Art and the Boboli Gardens but..

.....the reservation on GetYG was costly when compared with the ticket we were given when presenting the reservation at the ticket booth -- under 10 euros per person. But in high season probably worth it.

Enthusiasm, knowledge and love of Florence shone through !!

We had a wonderful morning in Florence with your guide Antonella. We learned all about the famous de Medici family and their palaces and residences in the different parts of the city. The different squares of the city were interesting and of course the impressive religious buildings with the Duomo being such an important landmark as well as being the Cathedral church. The artesan's area on the other bank of the river was fascinating and we took Antonella's advice and took the local bus up to Piazzale Michelangelo and thoroughly enjoyed the wonderful panoramic views of the city as well as those from San Miniato al Monte even higher up. British painters are known to have been impressed by the light in Italy - well it was easy to understand why as in late September we had sunny days and blue skies every day.

Interesting and enjoyable tour. Did not include any paid admissions.

The tour was interesting and Sylvia was a great guide. It doesn't cover the major churches of Florence (Santa Croce, San Lorenzo, Santa Maria Novelli), apart from the Duomo. None of the churches we visited had an admission charge. But there were a few gems we wouldn't have known about without this tour.
