What to Expect
Journey through the Italian Renaissance on a walking tour of Pisa, starting at Piazza Daniele Manin and strolling down Via Santa Maria, where superb, late Renaissance palaces were built over the skeletons of medieval tower houses.
Proceed towards the historical city center and see the 11th-century church of San Sisto in Cortevecchia. Continue to Knights' Square (Piazza dei Cavalieri), remodeled by Giorgio Vasari in the 16th century for the Order of the Knights of Saint Stephen, founded by Cosmo de Medici in 1561.
Arrive at Borgo Stretto and experience the true medieval heart of Pisa. Discover beautiful palaces and arcades, and the house where the polymath Galileo Galilei was born. Walk down to the River Arno and cross the Ponte di Mezzo (Middle Bridge) for an amazing view of the so called "lungarni" (the streets of the city that pass beside the River Arno).
Wind your way through little streets that date back to the Middle Ages on the way to Piazza dei Miracoli. On arrival, learn the secrets about the monuments of the "Square of Miracles," including the marble Duomo, Baptistery and Camposanto Monumentale (Monumental Cemetery). Focus on the legendary Leaning Tower of Pisa and benefit from the option to explore for about 20 minutes more (at a cost of €5.00 per person) before the end of the tour.
