7 Things to See and Do in Pisa
There are quite a few things to see in Pisa aside from the obvious! The Tuscan city's four historical quarters offer lots to see and do - here are a few suggestions.
1. Leaning Tower
You have to admit - the Leaning Tower of Pisa does look a bit odd in real life, but that's what makes it a fun and perfect spot for a selfie!
2. Pisa Cathedral
This is the less well-known but more grand building attached to the Leaning Tower of Pisa! Inside, you'll see Galileo's Lamp, very impressive frescoes, and intricate marble work.
3. Casciano Baths
Over one thousand years old, this spa's relaxing properties are just as potent today as they were back when it was built. The natural spring water, Acqua Mathelda, is mineral-rich and promotes dilation of the blood vessels.
4. Tuscan Hills Wine Tasting
Tuscany's idyllic hills provide the backdrop of a rich wine heritage, just an hour or two outside the city of Pisa.
5. Keith Haring mural
Pisa offers much more to see beyond its well-known Renaissance art. In the 1980s, legendary New York artist Keith Haring was so enamored with the city that he painted a mural inspired by his admiration. Look out for it- hidden off Piazza Vittorrio Emanuele II.
6. University Botanical Garden
Established in 1544, this was the first university botanical garden in Europe. Enjoy its greenery and open air buildings!
7. Museum of St. Matteo
A relatively well-kept secret, this small museum houses most of the original art from Pisa's historical buildings.
Planning Your Visit
Leaning towers
If offbeat buildings are you thing, make your next trip the tiny village of Suurhusen, Germany, whose church's steeple beats Pisa's tower by 1.22 degrees.
Festival of lights
The Luminara festival is held every June in Pisa, in case you want to plan your trip around it - the spectacular sight of 10,000 candles along the River Arno shouldn't be missed if you can help it!
Eat for cheap
Unsurprisingly, the area around the Leaning Tower is very busy and therefore the prices are heavily inflated. Wander Pisa's winding streets for an authentic dining experience and more affordable prices!
Beware of fraudsters
Unfortunately, tourists can be targets of crime in Pisa - keep your belongings close to you and be wary if strangers approach you offering help.

What people are saying about Pisa
One of the best full day tours I have been on. A long day but worth it n value money for what is on offer. A guide throughout the day. First stop in Siena with a local guide to give a tour of the city including inside the main dumno. Then a tour of a Chanti farm the had vineyard, cattle n a beautiful outside restaurant. We had lunch of pasta bolognise, cheese n ham along with 4 different local produce wine. You had a panoramic view of the next destination of San Gimignano where we free time for about hour or so. The final destination was Pisa. It great day n highly recommended. Special mention to the guide friendly Elisa who gave a us insight to each place we visited.
Our tour guide, Julio, was absolutely fantastic! The driver, Raul, was absolutely fantastic! This tour was worth every penny. The drive was beautiful, all the locations we stopped were breathtaking. The winery lunch was delicious, and really exceeded our expectations. We enjoyed all of the information that Julio gave us and we also enjoyed the quiet alone time we were given to explore each destination. Julio has a difficult task of speaking to people in three languages, he was excellent. Very personable and warm.
The tour was wonderful! It was very well organized and our tour guide Elisa was super lovely. She did an amazing job showing us around and giving us the most interesting information and in general we just had a super fun time with her. The three-course with different kinds of wine to taste in San Gimignano was amazing too. All in all, very recommendable for everyone who wants to explore some of Tuscany's most beautiful places in a short time for a very good price-performance ratio!
Buona vacanza a tutti.
Really fantastic amazing day! Elisa is such an attentive and lovely tour guide! The sites are amazing and the structure of the day was great.... the vineyard meal and wine tasting was utterly brilliant me and my friends had such a laugh and really enjoyed a lovely day seeing the sites of Tuscany! Thank you Elisa
