7 Things to See and Do in Pisa

There are quite a few things to see in Pisa aside from the obvious! The Tuscan city's four historical quarters offer lots to see and do - here are a few suggestions.

Leaning Tower

You have to admit - the Leaning Tower of Pisa does look a bit odd in real life, but that's what makes it a fun and perfect spot for a selfie!

Pisa Cathedral

This is the less well-known but more grand building attached to the Leaning Tower of Pisa! Inside, you'll see Galileo's Lamp, very impressive frescoes, and intricate marble work.

Casciano Baths

Over one thousand years old, this spa's relaxing properties are just as potent today as they were back when it was built. The natural spring water, Acqua Mathelda, is mineral-rich and promotes dilation of the blood vessels.

Tuscan Hills Wine Tasting

Tuscany's idyllic hills provide the backdrop of a rich wine heritage, just an hour or two outside the city of Pisa.

Keith Haring mural

Pisa offers much more to see beyond its well-known Renaissance art. In the 1980s, legendary New York artist Keith Haring was so enamored with the city that he painted a mural inspired by his admiration. Look out for it- hidden off Piazza Vittorrio Emanuele II.

University Botanical Garden

Established in 1544, this was the first university botanical garden in Europe. Enjoy its greenery and open air buildings!

Museum of St. Matteo

A relatively well-kept secret, this small museum houses most of the original art from Pisa's historical buildings.

Planning Your Pisa Visit

Leaning towers

If offbeat buildings are you thing, make your next trip the tiny village of Suurhusen, Germany, whose church's steeple beats Pisa's tower by 1.22 degrees.

Festival of lights

The Luminara festival is held every June in Pisa, in case you want to plan your trip around it - the spectacular sight of 10,000 candles along the River Arno shouldn't be missed if you can help it!

Eat for cheap

Unsurprisingly, the area around the Leaning Tower is very busy and therefore the prices are heavily inflated. Wander Pisa's winding streets for an authentic dining experience and more affordable prices!

Beware of fraudsters

Unfortunately, tourists can be targets of crime in Pisa - keep your belongings close to you and be wary if strangers approach you offering help.

What People Are Saying About Pisa

Nice option to get in first touch with Toscana for a short time

Very good organized, wonderfull places inside Toscana! Best rating for : guides, WI-FI in the bus, panacota during lunch, assistance to find and use the shuttle to Pisa, driver of shuttle bus Negatives: Microphone in the bus was bad, it was difficult to understand the guide, have to be changed! Recommendations: taste the gelato on San Gimignano, buy souveniers from San Gimignano

Loved the experience of going inside the tower you can feel the lean

Hassle free, well worth going in the tower. It is a very pretty tower with a great view of Pisa. The lean of the tower makes you feel a bit dizzy at times.

The person who helped us with the reservations was outstanding.

We arrived at the appointed hour and were able to access the Tower of Pisa inmediately, no problems with etickets. Excellent visit to a worldwide known monument.

Took longer to get a confirmation than stated on their web site

Took a few days to get a confirmation of my booking and had to call to get it. Once received it's a half & hour later than booked. Otherwise everything was ok.

Good guide, too little time afternoon tour

The guides were informative and the ride pleasant , however, not enough time actually at the site. If you climbed the tower that's all the time you had, and rushed. If you took the church tour only, you had time to explore but the cemetery closes at 4:30 and the church tour ends at 4:20
