If you have a taste for Tuscany but just a short time in Italy, this tour is for you! A comfortable air-conditioned car or minivan will collect you in Rome and by mid-morning, you will be in the ancient Etruscan town of Montepulciano. The next stop is at the vineyards of Montalcino. This is where one of Italy’s best wines, Brunello di Montalcino, is produced. A visit with the audioguide allows you to discover the inner courtyard of this wonderful palace, built as an expression of the interrelations between man and nature. Wander through the hanging garden and the charming rooms of the Palazzo Piccolomini, then enjoy a breathtaking view from the loggia over the Orcia Valley. The palace was the summer residence of Pope Pius II, and is part of a complex that includes the cathedral and the square, commissioned by the Pope and built in 1459 by famed architect Bernardo Rossellino, student of Leon Battista Alberti. The rooms on the main floor are furnished with period furniture, paintings and other furnishings, testimony to a past that still remains intact. Pienza is also known as having the first roof garden of the Renaissance, with views of the Val d'Orcia and Mount Amiata.

Our driver ALESSANDRO was delightful...like being with an Italian friend you’ve known a long time. Even though we thought we wanted to do a ton he let us savor a few life changing experiences...one of the best days of our lives. The day in Sienna was magical, pizza next level (and I was a kid in NYC) and a wine tasting/tour that was phenomenal. Thanks for a great day!!
There were 6 in our party so it was a private tour. Our guide took us where we wanted to go and made some good suggestions along the way. It was such beautiful scenery and of course so different than Rome. We need to return and next time stay in Tuscany.
Touring the halls of this palace is a journey back in time. The halls and even the room of Pope Pius II remain as is.
