Piazza dei Mulini: Our most recommended tours and activities

From Naples: Positano, Amalfi & Ravello

From Naples: Positano, Amalfi & Ravello

The coastal road begins after Sorrento, runs through Positano, the fishing villages of Praiano, Furore and Conca dei Marini and continues until it reaches the busy square of Amalfi, situated on the seafront with a port and a long stretch of pebbled beach. Head to Sorrento, along the famous "Costiera Amalfitana" or "Amalfi Coast." Pass through the Positano, descending the winding one-way road to the heart of the town — the busy central Piazza dei Mulini. At Piazza dei Mulini, continue by foot on the small pedestrian paths leading to the beach. These streets also lead to the cathedral and shops selling ceramics, lemons, shoes and “Positano fashion” clothing. Take a short walk back to the car and ascend the mountain to return to the main coastal road to Amalfi. In front of the port of Amalfi, there is the one and only bus station along the coast. Behind this square lies the main shopping street of Amalfi that terminates at the furthest and highest point of the town. Various bars and cafés line the street, in addition to shops selling limoncello, casual clothing, swimwear, gifts, basic groceries, and, of course, ceramics. Amalfi offers plenty to see beyond shopping: the most spectacular cathedral along the coast, the paper factory and its museum. A slow uphill drive along a very narrow road past several wineries and olive factories leads to Ravello, a rural village untouched by tourism, perched on top of the mountain cliff above Amalfi and Minori. Ravello is famous for its breathtaking views, natural beauty and ancient monuments in the gardens of Villa Cimbrone and Villa Rufolo. At the height of the season, these gardens are rich in sweet scents of blossoming fruits and flowers. There are many classical concerts held in the gardens of Villa Rufolo, located just off the main square of Ravello. Apart from the main cathedral in the square and a history museum in its basement, there are many other churches to visit; there used to be a total of 13 churches in the village. There are even a few small boutiques and souvenir shops tucked along the narrow arches of Via Roma.

The drive to the Almafi Coast is absolutely breathtaking! Our driver Massimo was kind and friendly. We were only able to go to Positano since there had been a landslide a couple days prior and there was still debris on the road between Positano and Almafi. The driver was flexible and we ended up going to Pompeii instead. We drove to Positano first and spent a couple hours exploring the beautiful town. Then drove to Pompeii and had lunch in a vineyard that was recommended by our driver Massimo. The vineyard offers a golf cart tour of the vineyard as part of the lunch. It honestly was the best part of the day and all thanks to our driver's knowledge of the area. After lunch we saw the ruins of the ancient city of Pompeii, then headed back to Naples after a long day. It was worth the extra money tp have a private driver because we were able to make our itinerary as we choose.

The day was the highlight of our trip. Massimo our guide/driver/friend was very pleasant and professional. He has lots on information about everything in the area, as he lives there, and also is very helpful in what we need to have the most joyful experience. He knows about all the attractions, little towns, nice beaches, restaurants, also the hotels in the area. Hence, you get to go to the best places in one of the nicest areas in the world with a very pleasant companion. Also the car is new and very comfortable, which is a must in the mountain. This trip is a must-do, and I totally recommend Massimo and colleagues.

Excellent! Our driver, Fabio, was great. We were able to enjoy the sights that we wanted to see in the Amalfi Coast. Fabio recommended an excellent restaurant with a magnificent view of the Mediterranean Sea with overhang lemons while dining. The. Sea bass that I ate with pasta was one of the best cause it was very fresh. Fabio was very accommodating and an awesome driver.
