What You'll Do
  • Take an in-depth look at the life of Benjamin Franklin as we visit the sites that influenced American history
  • Gain a contextual understanding of Franklin's impact on the last half of the 18th century
Join us on a walking seminar through Philadelphia in a small group. Along the way we will look deeply into the biography of Franklin as we visit sites in Philadelphia that impacted the great changes of the last half of the 18th century.
What to Expect
Few people in history have enjoyed such a symbiotic relationship with their city as Benjamin Franklin has with Philadelphia. As an inventor, scientist and politician (to name a few), Franklin captured the abundant energy of booming Philadelphia in the late 18th century and made it his own.

Our walking seminar is led by an expert in American history who will take you on a journey exploring the biography of Franklin as we visit influential places in Philadelphia. You will come away with a deeper, contextual understanding of this great man, and his influences during this pivotal time in American history.

Our walk will vary from day to day but includes sites central to Franklin's life, such as the post office at Franklin Court, Christ Church, and the American Philosophical Society. Our docent will spend time looking at some of the facets of the multi-faceted figure. This includes his work as an inventor (beyond the kite-flying story) and as a manager (his role as postmaster general was exemplary). Of course, serious attention will be given to Franklin's role in the Revolutionary War and international diplomacy as well as to the Continental Congress.
