About the activity provider
Pennicott Wilderness Journeys provides two multi-award winning Tasmanian coastal cruise experiences - Bruny Island Cruises & Tasman Island Cruises. Showcasing Tasmania’s southern coastal wilderness, passengers can view spectacular rock formations, intriguing caves, blowholes and sea-cliffs among the highest in the word. The area is also home to hundreds of seals, pods of dolphins, migrating whales, birds of prey and seabirds such as albatross and shearwater. Their distinctive yellow boats are safe comfortable and sea-kindly vessels, purpose built for this environment. Customers have the choice of driving themselves to the point of cruise departure or taking the full day tour from their Hobart Waterfront Booking Centre, including return guided bus tour, morning tea, 3 hour cruise and lunch. Tasman Island Cruises operates out of Port Arthur and Bruny Island Cruises out of Adventure Bay, Bruny Island. Pennicott Wilderness Journeys is Ecotourism Australia accredited, a Green Globe Lite Operator and has won the Tasmanian Qantas Award for excellence in Sustainability in 2010 & 2011. The businesses founder Robert Pennicott is passionate about sustainable operation and donates a substantial portion of business profits towards the conservation and management of the environment he operates in. Establishing the Tasmanian Coast Conservation Fund in 2007, Robert has since donated $100,000 from his profits. This has been used by Tasmanian Parks & Wildlife to eradicate a feral species from Tasman Island which was killing over 50,000 breeding seabirds a year. In 2012 he circumnavigated Australia in a small yellow dinghy to fundraise money for conservation and Rotary's End Polio Now campaign.
