You're sure to discover some of the city’s best romantic spots: quiet bridges, shaded parks, and trendy cafes. You can also choose to take the 3-hour evening tour to focus on the city’s striking nighttime views and lighting displays on a different route through the heart of the city.

Paris: Covered Passages Walking Tour

2. Paris: Covered Passages Walking Tour

Explore Paris’s covered passages: half-hidden covered streets filled with shopping and culinary treasures. Take a dazzling guided tour through 5 of Paris’ magical arcades, some of them dating back to the 1700s, and learn their secrets, history, and the best places to shop and dine. Begin at the Galerie Vivienne, a neoclassical-style covered passage dating to 1823, now a national monument filled with luxury boutiques. After the Galerie Vivienne, explore the Passage Choiseul, where over 600 feet of sunlit shops gather under the stunning glass roof. Be sure to look at the beautiful, ornately tiled floor. Continue the tour at the Passage des Panoramas, Paris' first covered walkway, built more than 200 years ago. Admire its old-fashioned charm and ancient architecture. Your guide will point out the best artisanal shops and eateries as you stroll along the scenic passage. Next, the Passage Jouffroy presents a narrow frame for shoppers to navigate, accented everywhere with glass and iron. It even houses a small wax museum that your guide will show you. At each of these stops your guide will direct your attention to details you might otherwise miss, fascinating pieces of history, and the story behind how these many covered passages in Paris found their way to the capital of fashion. The tour ends at the Passage Verdeau, where antique dealers and vintage curiosities crowd the walkway.

Paris: 2-Hour Passages Private City Tour in German

3. Paris: 2-Hour Passages Private City Tour in German

The hidden passages is not a term for many Parisian visitors, as they are usually discovered by chance, as their name suggests, a bit hidden and cannot be found right away. The Parisian passages will take you back to the early 19th century, when Paris was not as modern as the city it is known as today. Paris was a dirty city at the time and lived up to its filthy image. The Parisian passages were not shopping arcades as they are known today, but at the time, an answer to the prevailing circumstances. You could call them the forerunners of the 'grand magasin.' Why you'll be enchanted, feel relegated to another time and why the passages have only been in vogue for a short time will be revealed to you on this extraordinary private city tour.

Paris at Christmas: Festive Shopping Past and Present

4. Paris at Christmas: Festive Shopping Past and Present

Your guide will first take you on a journey away from the crowded shopping streets and into a more hidden side of the city. This is where Parisians shop in what were the precursors of today’s shopping malls. Discover richly decorated elegant passages, which were once lit by some of the first electric or gas lights in the city. Today they are still home to charming boutiques and brasseries, as they were then, with café tables spilling out into the passageways. Covered with glass roofs to avoid the winter weather, they are the perfect place to explore during the holiday season. See the beautiful and extremely fashionable Palais Royal. Explore its arcades full of history, chic stores, and bijou pastry shops. You will also pass by the magnificent Opera Garnier and hear the story of its infamous Phantom. Then it’s back onto the bustling Parisian boulevards, to visit the Galeries Lafayette, which is one of the most splendid old department stores in Paris. It is renowned for its dazzling glass dome and the imaginative spectacular Christmas tree that is installed under it each year. French children come here to gaze at the wonderful window displays, join them and be enchanted by the holiday magic.  End your tour at a fine gourmet food store, where you will be able to see, taste, and buy all sorts of typical French Christmas delicacies, both sweet and savory. Join the locals as they shop for their festive tables and immerse yourself in a truly Parisian holiday season.
