Guadalajara: Mexican Charro and Charreada Cultural Tour

1. Guadalajara: Mexican Charro and Charreada Cultural Tour

Spend a day in the ‘boots’ of a traditional Mexican Charro and be part of a Charreada (rodeo) on a guided tour where you will learn why the Charro is a UNESCO recognized identity of  Mexican culture. Get picked up and begin your tour with a bit of city history as you drive through historic neighborhoods that were very important at the beginning of Charrería history.  Arrive at the Lienzo, a type of cowboy arena, where a Charro will welcome you and give you an introduction to the origins of the Mexican Charro in the arena’s museum.  See the fantastic collection of different accessories and traditional costumes that Charros use every Sunday in the Charreada, which is a competitive event similar to a rodeo. Get a lesson on how to use the lasso’s used by the Charros and learn the differences between a Mexican lasso and those used in other cultures in the world. Brush and saddle up the horses and see how they are chosen for the parade that begins the Charrería. If possible, ride a horse along with other Charros so you can be part of this exciting parade. Take part in some traditional tasks as your Charro guide explains each of the different activities that take place during a Charreria. Celebrate the end of this unique cultural experience alongside your new Charro friends drinking some tequila and listening to the sounds of mariachi guitars.

We spent the day with Jorge and had an absolutely incredible time! We learned so much about the history of charreria and had a ton of fun at the same time. Our elementary-aged child had a great time! Jorge was a wonderful guide - very attentive, thoughtfully paced, and extremely engaging. This was our favorite activity during our time in Guadalajara. Highly recommend!

I had an amazing time learning the history of Charro. Jorge was an exceptional host and very patient with my lassoo lesson! The horses are stunning and the tequila was a great ending to the day. Jorge is also a great musician make sure you get a song or two from him.

Wonderful! We’ve been coming to Guadalajara for over 30 years and this was one of the most enjoyable and informative activities we’ve had. The guides were very friendly, knowledgeable, and proud of their country. We loved every minute! Mil Gracias!

Amazing! I learned so much about this Mexican tradition. I was blown away by the love, dedication and pride of the charros. The guides were eager to share their knowledge. I definitely recommend this tour. I will do it again!

This was certainly a unexpected most amazing tour. Jorge was full of interesting facts to help us get to know the Mexican Charros and show us how important this tradition is. Extremely fun activity, I highly recommend it.
