Covid-19 Update

Due to health and safety regulations, this itinerary may change. See Know before you go for the latest updates.

Discover one of the world’s great art collections on a guided tour of the Louvre Museum, and marvel at relics from Ancient Egypt to the art of the Italian Renaissance. The entire collection would take months to see in full, but you will follow a carefully planned route to discover the highlights. Gaze at da Vinci’s enigmatic Mona Lisa and see Anthony Canova’s emotional Psyche Revived by Cupid’s Kiss. Hear the true story depicted in Gericault’s Raft of Medusa. Go to Napoleon’s former apartments to admire the most beautiful décor of the palace, as well as a collection of crown jewels. The masterpieces continue with the Venus de Milo, the sculpture that inspired so many artists. Head to the basement of the Louvre Palace to see the foundations of the castle that once stood on the site. Choose between 2 options: get your ticket and guided tour with one of the skip-the-ticket-line guided tours in several languages. Alternatively, if you already have a ticket or museum pass, choose the guided tour for ticket or museum pass holders.

Great German tour with Miriam - We were a small group and did the 2 hrs. Booked a tour of the Louvre. Miriam is extraordinarily nice and has extensive historical and cultural knowledge. She has packed this knowledge - to our delight - in many small stories and anecdotes. This makes history and culture really fun! The 2 hours flew by. Miriam managed the feat of A) giving us an overview of the museum (important for our subsequent continuation of the visit), B) explaining the eventful history of the castle and C) all our expectations of the "must see" works of art fulfill. Well done - and thank you again!

The Louvre houses over 300,000 works of art and exhibits more than 30,000 of them to the public. It is almost essential to book a guided tour so that you don't get lost in the details and wander aimlessly through this huge area. Another great experience in the largest museum in the world. The sheer number of just a fraction of the exhibited works that could be included is overwhelming. However, the crowds in front of what is surely the most famous of all works, the Mona Lisa, is sobering at best. Instead, look at the other 4 da Vinci paintings on display - from a short distance and without any disturbingly noisy and jostling audience in front of them.

Fréderic gave us a friendly welcome at the meeting point and led us through the history of the Louvre and the main attractions in an exciting way. It was a pleasure to follow his clear explanations. That was worth a decent tip for us. Unfortunately we were the only ones out of the group of 14.
