Discover Paris' beautiful old shopping arcades and secret passageways on this fascinating walking tour.
What to Expect
Be guided through the secret passages and shopping arcades of Paris on this wonderful walk. The covered passages are a set of arcades constructed between buildings to improve traffic flow and also to create shopping galleries. Located on the Rive Droite and near the main boulevards, these structures were created for wealthy clients. The passages had their heyday in the first half of the 19th century as those in Paris numbered more than 130 at the time.
They were abandoned following the construction of Hausmann's great works and the emergence of department stores. This route brings you up to date about why these passages and other galleries were so appealing on a stroll around the 2nd and 10th districts. Among the twenty or so passages that are open and accessible, your guide will take you through around a dozen of them.
