Discover the Hotel National des Invalides, now home of the musee de l'Armee. Walk through the collections of the museum, at your own pace, and immerse into over 500, 000 pieces from the Middle Ages to present day. Witness the temporary exhibition of Special Forces L'exposition, dedicated to the French special forces.

Step into the heart of Paris and integrate into the History of France at the Hotel National des Invalides. Created by Louis, XIV to house veterans and wounded soldiers, the hotel national is now also the home of the musee de l'Armee.

Admire the world-renowned gilded Dome, which has been, since 1861, the resting place of Napoleon. Explore the collections and wander through the armor and weapons of the kings of France. Gaze around at swords, cannons, uniforms, paintings, photographs, and personal belongings of France's major figures.

Look beyond the artifacts, and participate in an interactive digital experiences with devices that allow visitors to get a better understanding of some of the battles that forged the country's history. Make sure to examining the Special Forces l'exposition temporary exhibit, that celebrates the 30th anniversary of the creation of the Special Ops Command.

Avoid the long queue at the cashdesk, you can enter the Invalides and show your tickets to enter the museums. As the Invalides gathers multiple museums and the Dome, you might have to show your ticket to enter each part of the site. Keep the ticket with you until the end of the visit.

Know before you go

  • Access to the site by the Esplanade des Invalides
  • Cloakrooms are closed
  • The museum admission is free for those under 18 years of age and for EU citizens under 26 years but they will need ticket to enter. Ticket can only be bought onsite at the museum cashdesk
  • Be aware that the tills will close 30 minutes before the museum closed
  • Closed dates: January 1, May 1, and December 25

Everything is organized and we benefited from the museum map and audio guide (both are in several languages), we had access to all the museum rooms and other necessary things such as changing room, bathroom and cafes. The report price/quality matches.

The Army Museum is excellent and the grave of Nap. is a must see. I would recommend getting a tour guide to make heads or tales of all the different weapons and uniforms throughout history, so it does not get monotonous. You need about 3 hours+ to do the museum.

What a beautiful building to begin... absolutely breathtaking...the history of France and its battles from the beginning of time and to the modern day army it is today is housed in its various museums... It's greatest general Napoleon and his tomb is here... Absolutely magnificent The outer grounds and it's café is free to enter but you need a ticket for entry into the museums unless exmpt...
