Experience a night of French theatre among the locals at the Théâtre le Ranelagh. Enjoy the action-packed classic play about star-crossed lovers and family honour. With the translated text projected above the stage you'll understand every word.
What to Expect
Meet your dedicated host upon arrival at the theater, who will welcome you and introduce you to the venue. Your seating for the performance will guarantee an unobstructed view of the English surtitles, which will be projected above the stage (that’s why they are called 'surtitles', and not 'subtitles'!). You will receive a printed program in English to read before the curtain rises.
Step into the grand auditorium of the Théâtre du Ranelagh, and prepare to be wowed by the ornate carved oak panelling adorning the orchestra and balconies, as well as the intricately decorated ceiling. Looking around you it’s not hard to believe that this building is listed as one of Paris’ 'historical monuments’.
Experience a refreshing take on Corneille's enduring classic, Le Cid, offering a lively and entertaining show full of passion and revenge, sword fights, and fantastic musical interludes. Originally performed in January 1637 at the Théâtre du Marais in Paris, Le Cid created quite a controversy as it broke the mold of the ‘traditional French play’. Don Rodrigue and Chimène are madly in love, but must fight to stay together after unanticipated events force Don Rodrigue to defend his father's honour against Chimène's father in a fierce and exciting duel. The two lovers are subsequently pitted against one another in this tragic tale of love versus duty. This action-packed performance will keep you riveted on the edge of your seat!
