Full description

Take the short journey to the suburbs of eastern Paris and arrive at the impressive Château de Vincennes, a true symbol of the modern French state. Discover how this historic Château was built in the 14th-century to affirm the power of the monarchy, guarding the capital and protecting the kings against uprisings. The Château was at the heart of the French monarchy until 1682, when Louis XIV chose to settle in Versailles.  Climb the stairs into the keep, a 52-meter fortified tower which is the tallest of its kind in Europe. The keep was used as a prison from the 16th up to the 19th-century. See the rooms where Fouquet, the Marquis de Sade, and Mirabeau were held and where King Henry V died. Find out how, under Napoleon I, the building was transformed into a barracks and arsenal, and the fortress protected Paris during invasions in the 19th-century. Now, the building is considered to be a place of national remembrance, that was restored after suffering extensive damage during the Second World War. The Château de Vincennes now houses the historical services of the 3 French armed forces.

This was amazing! The donjon of this castle is the tallest in France. The property contains one of the Saint Chapelle churches (yes, there are more than one - 11 were built originally) and it’s gorgeous. Virtually all rooms of the donjon and the church are open and you can go exploring them all. The buildings are not furnished, they are quite empty. The grounds are extensive. There is a woods beyond. I had not heard of this Château before except as the name of a metro line. Definitely worth the short trip there.

Beautiful castle complex in the immediate vicinity of the center. Entry after a security check and vaccination check is quick and easy. You can do an audio tour of the facility in different languages. The complex is very well maintained and the residential tower is interesting. There are also special tours for children.

Excellent ride, I went with my 9 year old daughter and she loved it, the castle is very well maintained and signposted, the map they give in the store is very useful, the store staff are very attentive, the church inside the property is also beautiful, with stained glass and sculptures incredible. Everything was fine with the tickets purchased through the GetYourGuide app, I even saved it at Cel and showed it to enter, my daughter didn't pay because she is under 18 and the store staff printed a non-paying ticket for her right away.
