Full description
Meet your local guide in center of Paris and begin your 2-hour walking tour. Discover some of the monuments related to the important 19th-century figures Napoleon III and the Prefect of Seine, Georges-Eugène Haussmann. Both men had a significant impact on the design and renovation of modern-day Paris. First, stop at the Palais Royal, an imposing building that now houses the Council of State, the Constitutional Council, the Ministry of Culture, a garden, galleries, and a theater. Visit the most luxurious walkway in Paris, the Vivienne Gallery. Enjoy its unique atmosphere as you discover its detailed decorations, including its mosaic floor. In terms of shopping, you'll find high-end and ready-to-wear stores, as well as interior design boutiques, collectors’ bookstores, and tea rooms. Study the exterior of the Opera Garnier, also called the Paris Opera, in order to appreciate the architecture of this splendid building. Make your way to Place Vendôme, created at the behest of Louis XIV, who wanted a grandiose place to represent absolute power in the heart of Paris. Napoleon I purposely replaced the statue of the monarch in 1792 with a column cast from 1200 bronze cannons taken from the enemy.  End the tour at the Tuileries Garden, which takes its name from the tile factories that used to be located there.  The garden, which separates the Louvre Museum from the Place de la Concorde, is enjoyed by both Parisians and tourists alike. Then, take a self-guided visit of the Louvre Museum. Discover major works of art by French and Italian artists, such as the Mona Lisa, as well as other works such as The Coming of Milo, the Victory of Samothrace, the Apollo Gallery, and Ancient Egyptian artefacts.
