The Montparnasse Tour is a wonderful way to learn about the cafe scene of the creatives, especially of the 1920s and 1930s, as well as the history of the area. Not a tourist area - as I learned, the majority are locals - so it was a fascinating way of "knowing what the locals know." Our guide, Sheldon, was magnificent - really pleasant and friendly with a mountain of knowledge and information and fun facts - not in a rote manner but in a genuine understanding of the area. It was a walk-and-talk tour, stopping to look at plaques and signposts and restaurants and statues and getting directions to other places to walk later. I thoroughly enjoyed this tour - without a tour, I have been walking past places of interest without knowing. No, there are no obvious monuments that are in the tourist books, but there are places of interest mentioned in novels. And there is historical and political places of interest too. I think Sheldon was a real star.

Great walk, slightly away from the most touristy areas. Our guide, Sheldon, was very knowledgeable and engaging, keeping not only adults entertained but also my daughters (teen and preteen), which is no small feat. Lots of interesting places and stories behind them on this walk. Highly recommended!
