Full description
Some of Claude Monet’s most famous works were painted in Giverny. These include his Water Lilies and Japanese Bridge paintings. The Impressionist artist lived in Giverny from 1883 until his death in 1926. On this full-day excursion you’ll travel to Giverny by train, round-trip from Paris. The garden itself comprises a flower garden in front of the house and the more famous water gardens across the road. Monet began work on the water gardens about 10 years after arriving in Giverny. Interestingly locals were originally opposed to his plans to build water gardens, fearful that the strange plants would poison the water of the tributary feeding the ponds. The flower gardens cover about a hectare and are laid out in color-themed borders. There are literally thousands of flowers in these gardens including masses of tulips, irises, oriental poppies and peonies, all with the wonderful colors that inspired Monet's paintings. The water gardens have a Japanese theme and include a replica of the Japanese bridge which featured in Monet's well-known painting. In addition to the gardens you’ll be able to visit Monet’s lovely and very colorful house.

Lovely day with the security that all arrangements had been made prior

Monet's garden is always a pleasure no matter what time of year. The garden is peaceful no matter how many people are around. Having a service who arranged your tour and tickets prior to your visit provided great peace of mind. The times there were generous with plenty of opportunities to see the place. Many thanks.

Monet’s gardens were spectacular even in October.

You arrive in the village of Vernon which appears to be economically destitute. You take a crazy jeep/train that gives you a historic overview of the area but not a return schedule requiring long waits to catch return. The town of Giverny is a quant and picturesque place in high contrast to Vernon. Monets garden and house are very worth the trip, spectacular!!! While the overall trip was great, our return train was cancelled creating high drama because the train office personnel were less than helpful.

Mislead to make purchaser think tour was guided

The “tour information” stated to arrive 15 minutes before 9:00 am meeting time at location point. The location was the train station. I arrived early as instructed, only to be confused when I realized that there was no guided tour and the train to Giverney wasn’t due to leave until 10:18 am. So, I sat in the train station for close to 2 hours, only to travel alone and tour the area without a guide.
