Full description
Historic and scenic, Père Lachaise Cemetery boasts some of the most expensive and coveted grave real estate in the world. It is the final resting place for famous artists, writers and musicians, from Yves Montand and Simone Signoret to Chopin and Oscar Wilde. On this 2-hour walking tour you’ll wander through this labyrinth of headstones, trees, and paths as your guide points out the famous graves and eccentricities that make this place so special. Oscar Wilde’s tomb surely stands out, covered entirely with bright red lipstick from kisses left by visiting admirers. As you pass Chopin’s tomb it seems that you can almost hear his well-known funeral march. See the final resting place of Molière, the famous French playwright. Famous for irony and satire, Molière, a sick man whose doctors thought he was a hypochondriac, died on stage playing a well man who is a hypochondriac, while the audience cheered him on. The most visited grave is that of the American rock star, Jim Morrison. His grave and those surrounding it are covered with graffiti from the hordes of fans that come here. Enjoy a walk through an extraordinary cemetery and relive the lives of some of the world’s greats.

Our guide Maryem was fantastic. She was knowledgeable, personable, and organized. We were a large group but she gave everyone personal attention. She showed us some of the most well-known graves (Wilde, Morrison, Piaf, etc.) as well as those perhaps not known outside of France. The cemetery is breathtaking. We spent about three hours wandering after our tour and saw so much more - but we were very grateful for taking this tour which gave us an added perspective we would have missed!

That there are many famous people buried at Pere Lachaise is known, but the history behind the creation of the cemetary we did not know. Our guide, Victoria, did a wonderful job of giving us the background of the cemetary and introduced us to some people who were very important when they lived. Additionally she gave us less well known information about the various revolutions in Paris. Super guide, absolutely recommended.

This is a must see sight in Paris! It's just overwhelming in every way. Not a sad visit at all. Our guide Hamesh was so informative and in 2 hours we barely scratched the surface. The Vista of the elaborate Graves of the famous and not famous just blew us away. Be prepared for some hilly cobblestone roads but nothing too difficult. Dont skip this!
