Full description
Explore the fascinating story behind the French Revolution and the tumultuous times that led to this key historical event in France on a 2-hour walking tour of some of the most historic sites in Paris. The French Revolution began on 14 July 1789, when the citizens stormed the Bastille prison. The prison no longer exists, although one of the city’s opera houses can now be found on the site, along with a column honoring the 1831 Paris Commune. The tour does not visit the location of the former prison, but there will be a lively discussion of the event. Walk to Les Invalides, used by the French army as an ammunition depot in the city. Hear how revolutionaries scaled the moat and stole over 30,000 weapons that were used in the attack on the Bastille. King Louis XVI was beheaded in the current-day Place de la Concorde on 21 January 1793. Stripped of all titles, he was guillotined in front of a large crown as simply citizen Louis Capet. The executioner testified that he had bravely met his fate. Take in the history at Place de la Concorde, before visiting the Tuileries Gardens and the Assemblée Nationale, enjoying plenty of great discussions about the Reign of Terror of the 1790s along the way.

    An interesting side to Paris

We did the 2 hour French Revolution walking tour in Paris. Sonia was our guide and she was very knowledgeable , funny and easy to listen to. We covered some interesting ground and events of the time. The walking distance was fine, easily manageable and Sonia took lots of opportunities to find spots to sit while she chatted. My year 12 French history certainly came back to me and to actually see and be at some of those places ( such as where Marie Antoinette lost her head ) was amazing.

    Fun and educational

Our tour guide was fantastic. The history of the city, fascinating, and the walk was not bad at all. Plenty of stops, chances to ask questions, etc. I highly recommend this tour if for no other reason than getting to see most of the things you would want to anyway in the 1st district.

tour guide was engaged, presented the topic in a lively manner and had a really good knowledge about the french revolution and french history at all. Because of all the interesting stuff and the fine weather - as booked :-) - the tour had taken longer that planned. It was worth every minute !
