Journey to the Itaipu Hydroelectric Dam regarded as a vanity project of the megalomaniac military commanders of Brazil when it was built in the 1970s and 80s but now seen in a very different light. Responsible for producing 95% of Paraguay's electricity and 24% of Brazil's total consumption, the binational enterprise - constructed by workers, technical operators, and engineers from Brazil and Paraguay - proves its magnitude on the national and international scene on a daily basis. Since the first generator began to operate in 1984, the power plant has broken successive production and revenue records. Marvel at this symbol of environmental preservation and hear about the reforestation, fish production, and wildlife reproduction programs of the Biological Haven Bela Vista company. In addition, an eco-museum tells the story of the dam's construction and maintenance. Watch a documentary film on the power plant. See the dam and spillway from the central observation deck, without entering the facility.
