Foz do Iguaçu: Itaipu Hydroelectric Dam Panoramic Tour

Foz do Iguaçu: Itaipu Hydroelectric Dam Panoramic Tour

Journey to the Itaipu Hydroelectric Dam regarded as a vanity project of the megalomaniac military commanders of Brazil when it was built in the 1970s and 80s but now seen in a very different light. Responsible for producing 95% of Paraguay's electricity and 24% of Brazil's total consumption, the binational enterprise - constructed by workers, technical operators, and engineers from Brazil and Paraguay - proves its magnitude on the national and international scene on a daily basis. Since the first generator began to operate in 1984, the power plant has broken successive production and revenue records. Marvel at this symbol of environmental preservation and hear about the reforestation, fish production, and wildlife reproduction programs of the Biological Haven Bela Vista company. In addition, an eco-museum tells the story of the dam's construction and maintenance. Watch a documentary film on the power plant. See the dam and spillway from the central observation deck, without entering the facility. The grandeur of a plant built between two countries, when revealed in numbers, is surprising: the Itaipu dam is 7,919 meters long and 196 meters high. But when viewed from close up and from various angles in a tour around the Itaipu Panoramic, it impresses even more and guarantees a unique and striking experience. In addition to the privileged view of the spillway at the top of the dam, the path still allows contact with nature and beautiful landscapes within the Itaipu Tourist Complex.

We had an unforgettable day with Falls Bike Tours represented by Hielo and Alex on Feb 26 2025. The two nice gentleman directed us safely and professionally through traffic and border controls, and shared their knowledge about all the places we visited. It was me (54), my wife and our daughter (26) that did this tour with them. Apparently, we were the first Norwegians to do the tour 😃 We are not very experienced bikers, but rather active in other sports. The trip lasted 11 hr in about 35 degrees heat. 6 of these hours were spent on wheels. A little more than 50 kms total. There are too many wonderful experiences to name them all, but Saltos Monday waterfalls in Paraguay and biking through an Indian village in Argentina was great. The guides shared photos from the tour with us on WhatsApp. We enjoyed local breakfast in Paraguay and lunch in Argentina. Very tasty, and not too pricy. We were quite tired after the trip, and had a good night’s sleep. We highly recommend this tour. Enjoy!

Absolutely brilliant tour!! If you like adventure and you enjoy active tours, then this is your tour! We spent 10 hours cycling across from iguazu falls Brazil into Paraguay, hopping onto a ferry from Paraguay to Argentina! We cycled through border controls, forests, had breakfast in Paraguay, and lunch in Argentina! Tour guides were amazing and the route was well thought out! The tour guides were safety conscious the whole time with us. I would do this tour again!

Enjoyable evening on the more quiet side of the river, after two days of the magnificent Falls and soaking speed boat ride. Giving good impression of the place and people.
