Our guide Elaina was wonderful! Lake Attitlan is beautiful! I really enjoyed the village of San Juan La Laguna. It was very colorful and artistic. We made a 15 minute stop at the "hippie" village, which was a waste of time. The town is very dirty and we didn't have enough time to explore. We visited the village of Santiago Atitlan. We learned about the history and visited a gallery and a church. The boat ride was rough in ht e afternoon, but overall it was a great day.

This boat trip is a must! I am so glad I did this experience. Elena, our guide, was fantastic! We had both Spanish and English speakers on the tour, and she did a great job going between both languages and making sure everyone felt included. I loved the chocolate, town and textile tours in San Juan. In San Pedro, I used this stop to enjoy the views from a café over a beverage. And in Santiago I enjoyed the town and painting tour and the lunch spot. Since I had not planned to stay in any of these towns, I'm so glad I got to experience them on a tour. Yes, you could explore on your own, but it was so nice to learn a bit of history and have a boat taking you around and not having to wait. We had around 2 hours in San Juan and Santiago and about 30 minutes in San Pedro. The timing was perfect and gave me enough to determine if I wanted to return at another point during my stay at the lake. Again, great tour, great guide and nice overview of Lake Atitlan and these three towns.

We had a very delightful tour. It was fun to see the three towns visited and the chocolate and textile making demonstrations were quite interesting, although the chocolate was quite expensive considering it's made there. The guide was well versed in the local area and history, and she spoke very understandable English. The only caution I would offer is that sitting in the front of the boat can be VERY uncomfortable if the winds pick up and the water gets even slightly choppy since the bow of the boat bounces considerably more than the stern. Notice that the guide sits in the back! I had the misfortune of being the last person into the boat, so my wife and I were in the very front. My back couldn't take the pounding and I was extremely uncomfortable the entire way back from the last village visited.
