Enjoy a private day trip in Sicily. Discover the Dome in Monreale, famous for the gold mosaics representing scenes from the Old and New Testaments. See Cefalù, a charming coastal town with the Norman Cathedral. Then visit Palermo, the capital of Sicily.
What to Expect
Take a tour of some of the more interesting spots in Sicily on a full-day private tour departing from Palermo.
Begin with a drive to Monreale to see where the Arab-Norman art and architecture reached the pinnacle of its glory. Admire the Dome, launched in 1174 by William II, famous for scenes from the Old and New Testaments depicted in golden mosaics.
Next, go to Cefalù, a charming coastal town. See its cathedral built in the style of Norman architecture, and admire a dozen other churches throughout the town.
Return to Palermo to explore the lively Capo Market, a large, open-air street market that captures the flavor of Palermo's Saracen Arab past. Capo is a blend of general confusion and a jumble of vendor stalls winding toward the old gate of what used to be the city wall.
Continue on to Piazza Pretoria and Via Maqueda, where you will see a quartet of Baroque palaces left over from the heyday of Spanish rule dating from 1560. At the end of a lovely day, you'll be taken back to your hotel.
