Following a pick-up at your Palermo hotel, drive to Monreale to explore the exquisite Cathedral. Feast your eyes on 6,300 square meters of gold mosaics, and enjoy the sublime Arab-Norman interior. Visit the pristine cloister, before making your way back to Palermo.
Encircled by mountains and sea, Palermo is steeped in history and bursting with ancient traditions. Upon arrival, you will go to the Cathedral, erected in 1185 by Walter Ophamil (Walter of the Mill), the Anglo-Norman Archbishop of Palermo and King William II's minister. Admire the marble parchment containing verses from the Qur'an, dating from the time when it was a mosque.
Continue to the Royal Palace and Palatine Chapel to marvel at the stunning gold mosaics of the residence of Norman king Roger II’s family. Then, drive through the city center to the Four Corners (Quattro Canti), a beautiful square and intersection of Baroque buildings. Continue to Piazza Pretoria to see the city’s most beautiful fountain, and gaze at the red domes of the Chiesa di San Cataldo (Church of San Cataldo).
