Guided tour of the Macarena neighborhood
We will start at the Hospital de las Cinco Llagas (Hospital of the Five Wounds), now the Andalusian Parliament, a building of great beauty and steeped in history, such as the ghost of Sister Úrsula, or those mothers of the good death, not to mention the fascinating legend surrounding the origin of the Virgin of Esperanza Macarena and a suitcase. We will visit the Muralla de la Macarena with its winding layout, then we will enter the Basilica de la Esperanza Macarena, which today remains the most admired in Seville and is universally revered. We will have the opportunity to see the oldest churches in the city - the churches of San Gil, Santa Marina, San Marcos... all built on the foundations of ancient Muslim mosques, and striking for their preservation of the old minaret and sebka panels, such as the Giralda. We will take a look at Seville's last coal yard, a very unique spot. We will discover the Palace of the Marquises of La Algaba, now the Mudejar Art Center. We will cross the famous Feria Street Market, Seville's oldest food market, a must-see for local products, and with any luck we will be able to visit the Thursday flea market. We will experience the "Macarena joy" in the Alameda de Hércules, one of the favorite leisure areas of Sevillians. We will discover another hidden gem of Seville, San Luis de los Franceses, with its Solomonic columns like those of Bernini in the Vatican. And we will make a welcome stop at Seville's Plaza de Montesión, where the old "regatonas" sold all kinds of products. We won't miss the Corralones del Barrio, places of pure craftsmanship where even trades that are now almost extinct are still practiced. From there, we'll head to the Plaza de Santa Isabel, which many consider to be the most beautiful square in Seville, where the house of Tomasin, the ghostly Nazarene of the Convent of Santa Isabel, awaits us. As if that weren't enough, we'll end our tour in a small Alcázar bathed in the light of Seville... It is the palace where I was born, -verses by Antonio Machado-. Palacio de las Dueñas and its beautiful gardens. La Macarena is that neighborhood where history embraces you, flamenco invites you to a "quejío" and tapas make you lose count...
