Full-Day Wine Tour of Puglia and Basilicata & Matera Visit

1. Full-Day Wine Tour of Puglia and Basilicata & Matera Visit

You’ll travel with an expert guide through unspoiled landscape boasting centuries-old vineyards that have produced the famous Primitivo, Negromaro, Sussumaniello, and Aglianico e Bombino Bianco wines. This full-day excursion begins in Gioia del Colle. You’ll be taken on a tour by one of the owners of the organic vineyard, where focus is on the fantastic Primitivo wine. We will take you through the organic wine production process. Before lunch you’ll head to the ancient city of Matera, which is home to movie director Francis Ford Coppola. Matera has been the setting for a number of well-known films including Mel Gibson’s The Last Passion of Christ. You’ll enjoy lunch at a typical restaurant in the old town and afterwards visit the famous Sassi cave dwellings. In addition, you’ll have free time to explore the city at your leisure. If your accommodation is in Bari, Ostuni, or Lecce, you may be able to arrange pick-up. You’ll travel in fully-equipped, private transport, and enjoy the service of an expert bilingual (English/Italian) tour guide. Visits to a vineyard, with wine tastings, are included. You’ll have the opportunity to purchase wine and other products from the vineyard you visit.

Cisternino: 2-Hour Authentic Italian Village Tour

2. Cisternino: 2-Hour Authentic Italian Village Tour

Cisternino is well worth a visit for its classic example of spontaneous architecture. The old city of Cisternino is both amazing and unforgettable through its wonderful atmosphere, great views of the Itria Valley, cute old buildings and friendly people. During the tour, you’ll visit the Church of San Nicola, known as the Mother Church, which was built in the 12th century over the previous 8th century Basilian church, whose foundations remain. Then, visit the Norman-Svevian Tower built in the 11th century by the Normans at 17 meters tall. It was largely rebuilt in the late 14th century and was remodeled several times in subsequent periods. Stop at the beautiful view overlooking the entire Itria Valley, a wonderful skyline of the valley with trulli and olive trees. In the old town, visit the most important noble historic buildings walking in the narrow alleys and on the white/ black chianche, a typical limestone floor. This village has many good restaurants for evening dining, a choice of good cafes for snacks during the day and good local shops selling all the authentic local produce you could want. An area of great beauty, too perfect to be real but real with incredible trulli.
