What People Are Saying About Ostia Antica
We spent far too long standing at the entrance and the necropolis then rushed the much more interesting part like the house of Diana. The guide was a nice girl and knew a lot but the whole visit was with too much talk and not balanced well
Our guide, Amanda, was brilliant. Super knowledgeable and made what looked to be an endless expanse of ruins come to life! The ruins themselves are in fantastic condition, but are on a huge site. Even with Rome heaving with tourists, this was quiet. So much so, we didn't even need the headsets to hear our guide! Without Amanda, even with knowledge of the period, I would have found it difficult to distinguish between it all. Instead, she was able to guide us as a Roman would have proceeded as if we were to become Roman for the day. She knew of not only the most valuable and interesting parts, but also where to grab great views, enter top storeys of buildings and juggle an English tour to accomodate Spanish speakers too. This was by far the most informative tour of my trip and would recommend to everyone. It is an ideal replacement of you don't want to use a whole day of your trip on the long haul to Pompeii. Would thoroughly recommend this tour! Brilliant!
Roberta was very passionate and enthusiastic about Ostia, and made the ruins come alive for us. She was very good at surprising us by leading us around many little delights, and then expanding on the detail about what we could see. She also translated the Latin on the tombs for us. She even told us where to have the best lunch in Ostia Antica afterwards! As for Ostia itself - far less crowded than Pompeii, and just as good, if not better, in our opinion. Where else can you walk on original 2,000 year old marble and mosiac floors - and just 25 minutes from Rome? Thoroughly recommended.
