What to Expect
Croatia's gastronomic culture may not be widely talked about, but it's not to be underestimated. Spend 7 days travelling the inland province of Slavonia, sampling its interesting and unique cuisine.
Today you'll be transferred in style to your villa or hotel in Osijek City Center. After relaxing a bit, we'll enjoy a welcoming dinner where you can receive all the info for your upcoming adventures, and receive a complimentary gift basket from Taste Dalmatia.
After a lovely breakfast, it's time to try your hand at cooking the Slavonian way! You'll meet your culinary guide who will walk you through the local market where you can learn about the products and techniques used in this tasty Mediterranean cuisine. During your class, you'll learn everything about the Slavonian dishes and then dine on the fruits of your labor. The afternoon and evening are yours to explore the city.
Breakfast is served before you head into the city of Ilok. Here, in the easternmost part of Croatia, you will discover a land where East meets West. This magical city rises from the banks of the Danube like a fairytale setting, and you will be awed by the magical landscape of gently rolling hills and vineyards of Fruška Gora. You will learn about the long and fascinating history of this village, as well as discover the local Traminac, a tasty variety of wine brewed in these regions. Visitors today can relax, exploring this cultural diverse area that has been home to years of war and conflict, but today is a peaceful and welcoming area. You'll enjoy wine tours in the cellars here and lean about the Slavonian wines and their combinations with meals. We return to Osijek tonight.
After breakfast you'll head to Kopački rit Nature Park. Here you can discover a world that is framed by the two large rivers of this floodplain valley - the Danube and Drava. The tour of the park is organized in small boats so you can experience this land from the rivers that define it. For lunch we'll dine on a traditional Slavonian meal, called fish paprikas, which area tasty and healthy snack to set you on the way. Tonight we'll return to Osijek.
Today is spent entirely in Pozega, the center of the Slavonian Golden Valley. Here you will visit the castle of Dora Pejacevic, the composer that has brought much to this rich area. We'll also stop in the city of Nasice and Kutjevo, where you can visit another wine-cellar, castle and basements. When we arrive in Pozega, traditional appetizers and aperitifs are waiting for you, as you relax into this welcoming and warm culture. Overnight stay in Osijek.
Breakfast is served before heading to Djakovo, for a day trip. The city offers a lovely day of sightseeing, and you'll vista a 500 year old horse breeding farm, one of the main attractions here. Afterwards, lunch is served in a traditional Djakovo restaurant. Finally, we'll return to Osijek, where you will have a free evening.
There is an early breakfast served before you transfer back to the airport. We hope you've enjoyed your stay! Ciao!
