The Main bus stop and Branded Tour office with Departure point is in Rosebank. Look for the City Sightseeing Tour office in the main pedestrian part of the "The Zone Mall", Oxford Road, Rosebank. It’s easy to find, between the “Holiday Inn Rosebank” and “Hamleys”. The Tour office is easily and safely accessible by free branded City Sightseeing shuttle bus, rented car, Gautrain or Uber (Detailed instructions for each of these options are on your tour voucher). You can also check Google maps for the “City Sightseeing Johannesburg Visitor Center”. The Hop-On Hop-Off Tour stops at Melrose Arch, the Mandela Foundation, passes Mandela's Homes in Houghton, we make a scenic Photo Stop at Munroe Drive, Constitution Hill, the Mining District in central Johannesburg, the Apartheid Museum and Gold Reef City Casino Hotel. We have a tour office here to ensure that you can join the optional Soweto extension tour. (See details of this extension tour below) From there, the hop on hop off tour also stops at Newtown to visit the Sci Bono or Museum Africa, Braamfontein to visit the Neighborhoods Market (open on Saturdays only), before we stop at the Johannesburg Zoo and the Military Museum from where the tour returns to Rosebank. The 2 hour, small group tour of Soweto is accessed whilst on the hop on, hop off tour at the “Gold Reef City” Bus stop. There are staff on duty to make sure this is safe and easy for you. Learn about the incidents that happened on the fateful day of 16 June in 1976 when Hector Peterson was shot and killed by the police during the student protests. This tour includes a little bit of exercise and is eco-friendly. You get to cycle on the most famous street on the African continent, Vilakazi Street. Interact with locals and see how life goes in South Africa's most famous township. You will have the opportunity to support local small businesses on the way. You can bring small change or items that you would like to donate.

A Day Of Soweto Food & Beer Tour

Let us hop on a bicycle together for some real township flavor and cycle the streets of Orlando East and West, one of the first townships in Soweto. We will experience local foods and have beers with locals at our beer stops. The tour begins at our BOOK IBHONI office on Kumalo Street, directly across from the iconic Hector Pieterson Museum. Here, you'll receive an introduction to the day's experience, including insights into local greetings and cultural etiquette. Your guide will provide a traditional welcome drink and set the tone for an authentic day out in Soweto. During the tour, we'll explore attractions such as the Hector Pieterson Museum, Mandela House, and the Orlando train station where you will get to view Orlando East, West, and Orlando Stadium. We will then cycle through the township of Orlando East, heading to lunch. For lunch we have the famous sandwich called a Kota, which is a street-like burger. We will then move over to a local tavern where you'll drink, share, and have more conversations with us and other locals. Feel free to bring small bills for souvenirs and optional tips for the street performers at some of our stops. Tips are not compulsory. We do have safe parking if you are driving to us. The bicycle tour route is easy but a little bit hilly too. Duration Approximately 4 hours Requirements - Moderate fitness level - Kids are welcome their drinks will be Soda. NB : The tour includes two local meals & tasting of different foods along the tour. 1 - Amagwinya(Fat Cakes) if you are doing the morning tour. 2 - Tasting of local meals at local food spots. 3- Kota (Street-like Burger) main lunch. Meet your local guide at the designated meeting location to begin your tour at the Hector Pieterson Memorial. Your guide will provide a brief history of South Africa, the history of Soweto, and an overview of the current challenges facing its people. After visiting the Memorial, we'll ride our bicycles to Vilakazi Street, the only street in the world where two Nobel Prize winners have lived. You'll get a taste of Soweto's vibrancy and visit the famous Mandela House and Tutu House. We then cycle to the first clinic in Soweto, called the Shanty Clinic, where you'll get a glimpse of the health services in Soweto and their improvements over the years. The cycle continues to the iconic Orlando Stadium, a place that has served as a source of hope and joy for the people of Soweto who were living under the oppression of Apartheid. Explore the vibrant and resilient lifestyle of the Soweto people when we cycle to the historic Orlando Train Station. Gain insight into the daily lives, traditions, and challenges they faced during the regime. Continue your journey towards the famous Soweto Towers. Before reaching the towers, you'll have the opportunity to see one of the first brick houses built in Soweto. The towers are known for the beautiful murals painted on them and for the extreme experiences they offer there. They are also a landmark in Soweto. (Optional) The cycle continues to one of the informal settlements found in Soweto. If you would like to have a short excursion inside the informal settlement you are welcome to do so, if not, we pass the settlement just for sightseeing. (Optional) From the informal settlement, we normally take our guests to do a beer tasting of the local Soweto beer. To rejuvenate ourselves after some cycling, we treat ourselves with the mouthwatering Kota also known as the township burger. After our lunch, we cycle back to the Hector Pieterson Memorial to end our tour.".
