Full description
On our visit to Ancient Olympia, you’ll marvel at the Temple of Zeus, which once housed the gold and ivory statue of Zeus. Before it was destroyed by fire, the statue was listed as one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. You’ll also see the original stadium and bouleuterion, which housed the council of citizens. You’ll make the 30-40 minute journey from the Katakolon Port to Olympia in air-conditioned comfort. On arrival you can explore Olympia at your own pace on our half-day tour, or with an experienced licensed guide if you have booked this option. Tickets to enter the archaeological site and/or museum are available for purchase at the time of admission. The museum is just a short walk from the archaeological site. It is home to many priceless exhibits, including marble statues from the Temple of Zeus and a unique statue of Hermes, carved by the ancient Greek sculptor Praxiteles. After visiting the site and the museum, we’ll make a short stop in the village of Olympia, where you’ll have free time to explore.

Worth the trip

I think a lot of people skip Olympia because it is far from Athens but it is totally worth the drive, which is beautiful. Our guide dimitri was very knowledgeable and gave us a great tour. Highly recommend

Magda our guide provided us a spectacular Olympia experience.

Without Magda’s insightful guidance, ancient Olympia would have been just another walk through ruins. She brought the old columns and statues to life for our group! Highly recommend hiring a guided tour for this excursion.
