Zanzibar: Stone Town Historical Walking Tour And Lunch.

Zanzibar: Stone Town Historical Walking Tour And Lunch.

This 4 hours tour will just start by enjoying walking tour in the World heritage site of Zanzibar’s ancient town. You will visit different historical sites, this sightseeing on foot means you can leave cars behind while following Stone Town’s most narrow, winding streets. Stone town is famously known for its prominent historical and artistic importance from Eastern to Central Africa. Its history mostly dates back to 7th century with defused culture and its architecture where the world explorers met up. After spending hours in stone town now your guide will take you the seashore to take a wooden dhow to a beautiful island mostly known as Prison Island, but it has gained so many names because of different reasons. On this beautiful island, spend some time exploring the area and discover the collection of over 50 tortoises that live inside the island, some of which are more than 100 years old. The second oldest tortoise in the world is found there in the island. Another main attraction during the Prison Island Tour is the historical site of the central prison of Zanzibar, from which the name of the tour derives. This was built back in 1893, but despite the fact that it has been named as a prison it was never used as a prison in reality. You will also tour the old fort which is also known as the Arab fort, the house of wonders, and then to Forodhani Gardens, a darajani fruits and spice market, and the Zanzibar ferry terminal. The tour also includes visits to the Freddie Mercury house, Zanzibar Curio Shop, Jaws Corner coffee shop, and more. Visit the Anglican cathedral, also known as the former slave market which was used for centuries as a hub for the East African slave market, whereby slaves were hunted and abducted from Malawi, Congo, Zambia and other parts of East Africa.

The tour guide was extremely informative and gave lots of information regarding the history of Zanzibar from colonialism, slavery and how it has come to be what it is today. We also explored lots of important monuments and recommended spots in Stone Town. I definitely learnt a lot and gives a good first insight into Stone Town and great places to explore more in your own time.

Giklik is the perfect guide. Friendly, very knowledgeable, good at explaining and attentive…you can easily see he’s passionate about his job. I especially liked how authentic he was, saying not only the good but also the bad aspects of the town and also how he brought us to see less touristy places we never would have visited by ourselves! Highly recommend!!

Giklik picked us up at the hotel and told us many interesting details about the history, island and of course Stone Town. The tour was very entertaining and informative. We recommend.

Khamis was a great guide. Loved hearing about how Stone Town and Zanzibar came to be. He was really social and even spent some time having a meal with me! He comes highly recommended.

Very nice visit with a very friendly guide who did his best to make himself understood because we have very limited English Thank you Giklik
