It was just two of us - me and my husband - and we loved it! Johan, the guide, provided a lot of interesting information of how Odense was turned from an industrial place to a green oasis with beautiful architecture. The guide was super friendly, we had a nice conversation and left the tour dreaming about the same kind of smart urban development in the place where we live... or living in Denmark one day!

I had the most lovely and intellectual walking tour with Mr. Asmussen. My first impression of Odense was already quiet good but through this tour I learned to appreciate it even more. Mr. Asmussen has a kind personality and is also a great conversationalist which honestly makes time fly. I highly recommend this walking tour to really understand and explore the past and present developments of both the old and new parts of Odense! Thank you!

Full description

The goal is to offer you something different from the usual tourist city tours - I want to provide you with something new and informative for your vacation.

The focus of the tour is on urban development and the transformation from an industrial city to a city with the declared aim of being a green city with innovative creativity, where young people can also find affordable housing in the city center.

However, we also talk about the Danish education system, daily life in the city, infrastructure, the economy, and much more.

The tour begins in the old part of the city.

From there, we head towards the harbor, which in many ways symbolizes the modern transformation of Odense.

Along the way, we pass through, among other places, the former industrial area where a completely new district is developing these years.

Back to our starting point - so we take a round trip - we walk through a completed urban area that now lies where just a few years ago a six-lane main thoroughfare ran right through the city center.

The best part of the tour is especially the many insider pieces of information that you cannot find in any tourist brochure or elsewhere.

The city tour is for those who want to gain more knowledge.

Includes

  • Guided walking tour led by knowledgeable experts.
  • Exploration of contemporary urban development and transformation.
  • Insights into Odense's transition from an old industrial city to a green innovation hub.
  • Small group
  • Meeting a local (the guide)
  • Opportunities to ask questions and interact with the guide.
  • Insider perspectives and firsthand accounts from locals.
  • Unique and enriching way to experience the city beyond surface-level tourism.

Meeting point

The meeting point (Overgade 3, 5000 Odense, Denmark) is on the pedestrian street/mall. There's a small ruin there, and that's where we'll meet. The guide will also carry a sign that says "KnowledgeWalks". It's a small area, so don't worry – we'll easily find each other.

Our tour was excellent! It was the two of us (my wife and me), and our university-age daughter and we all liked it a lot. Our guide Johan is both knowledgeable and fun so he keeps sharing many interesting facts, fun facts, and insights of what you can see in Odense -and what you can’t (thanks to pictures from the past and stories from this city’s transformation). Highly recommended for all ages!
