Full description

-Catch Tokaido Shinkansen Kodama #707 ETD Tokyo 07:57 (own arrangement), get off at Odawara Station at 08:30, then the local train to Hakone Yumoto station, where I will meet you. then bus taxi up to near Amazake Chaya teahouse, one of the few remaining of hundreds of teahouses that adorned Old Tokaido. -After some heart-warming amazake (non-alcoholic) we follow the stone-paved Tokaido on foot through the forest down to the shore of Lake Ashinoko in Moto-Hakone. -We stroll the mile-long Cedar Avenue, lined both sides with towering 400 year-old cedar, then through Hakone Checkpoint. - Lunch by the Lake. - We rejoin Old Tokaido for a largely forested hike to Yamanaka Castle Ruins, Mount Fuji photo opportunity (weather permitting). -We then bus to Mishima, and stroll along Genbe River World Heritage Water Area to Mishima Station. -Catch Tokaido Shinkansen Kodama #734 Mishima/Tokyo 17:24/18:18 (own arrangement) About 8 miles walking total.

Tony is a nice guy speaking native fluently English and Japanese. We had really fun making this tour with him. He knows a lot about history of Japan and the area we were walking. Picked us up at the hotel in Hakone and brought us back. He made a great job. Warmest recommendation Klaus.

BEST experience so far in Japan. We hiked an area of Hakone we never would have known about and had an insider’s perspective thanks to Tony’s years of experience living in the area. He customized our route based on our schedules and anticipated the weather - finished our day 10 minutes before the rain came down! Our chat with the owner of a 400 year old tea house along the shogun’s old road (translated by Tony) will be a special family memory for us - all thanks to Tony!

The whole experience was delightful. Tony was very informative and chatty. loved the personal touches on this tour, from pick up in his personal car to the first drop point, to the tea and chocolates at the final stop, everything was thoughtful and experiences a delight. The proprietor at the teahouse was amazing, and Tony who is fluent in Japanese, made everything easy and informative. Some parts of the climb will test your stamina, so please bear that mind, it isn't an easy stroll in tha park you might think it is. Fijusan came out and played with us all day, so we where the lucky 20%. Lunch was amazing and location superb. overall, a phenomenal tour. Would wholeheartedly recommend this tour. Immersive and unexpectedly delightful glimpse into a small part of Japan's history.
