Highlights
  • Admire Nuremberg’s Old Town and see the Town Hall and Imperial Castle courtyards
  • Visit the bustling marketplace where world-famous Christmas markets are held in December
  • Step back in time at the former Nazi Party Rally Grounds
  • Learn about the dark history of the Third Reich and how the city deals with its past today
Full description
On this 4-hour tour an expert English-speaking guide will take you to see Nuremberg’s Imperial Castle, where German Emperors ruled. See Gothic churches with awe-inspiring works by the most talented German artists in history, and the area where colorful markets have been held for nearly 700 years. Take a break for lunch in the marketplace before boarding the bus for the former Nazi Party Rally Grounds. The largest Third Reich buildings left in the world still silently testify to the megalomania of a madman. You'll see where stormtroopers paraded, and where Adolf Hitler personally inspected columns of SS men and performed pseudo-religious cult rituals before the saluting masses. Learn how Nuremberg deals with this dark part of its past today. After the war, at the Nuremberg trials, many of these same men would finally face justice and the gallows before the eyes of the world. The tour ends in front of the Third Reich Documentation Center Museum, which you might like to visit (entrance fee not included).

We really enjoyed this informative walk. My husband soaked it all in. I found it too strenuous as there was lots of walking. Next time I’ll look for a bike to do the rally grounds for sure. But info and guide were all very interesting. The old town tour was excellent.

Achim was very knowledgeable and knew the city to great intimate detail. Great humour which made the tour more enjoyable. The tour itself covered all the main sites in the old town and rally grounds. Overall you will see pretty much everything you came to see in the Old Town and Rally grounds and are in very good hands to give you the historical perspective for each site. A great way to spend a day in Nuremberg.

Natassa was an excellent tour guide, making the whole activity run smoothly. She was very well informed about literally everything having to do with Nurnberg whether the topics were included in the schedule or not. This was an activity I chose to do in my first day in the city and I would really recommend you to do so accordingly. This is a great way to see and learn about the city in half a day.
