Set off on a fun day trip with a friendly, local guide. This essential tour is easy to fit into the schedule of a busy traveler to Iceland. This area is renowned for its dramatic lava landscapes, with conic volcanoes, fields of jagged basalt, geothermal areas, and geological marvels. Start with Reykjavik pickup-if lodging elsewhere, please make arrangements to go to the city. The stops we will make include: Seltun Hot Springs, where you can see a natural hot spring and see how hot it naturally is- it can resemble boiling mud. We will also visit the Reykjanes Lighthouse named Reykjanesviti, where you can look into the ocean and see some beautiful cliffs. Our next stop is the Bridge Between the Continents where you can walk and literally be in two places at once between the Eurasian and North American tectonic plates. If we have time and group interest, we may add the following stops: Leiðarendi Lava Cave (we will not enter the cave), Lake Kleifarvatn, Krýsuvíkurkirkja, and the Fish Drying Place. After we sightsee, we will do a light hike to visit the volcano area where the 2021 Fagradalsfjall and 2022 Meladalur Volcanos erupted. Please note, we can not guarantee an active eruption, and we might modify the route for the hike if snow or other weather conditions have an impact on our usual route. This hike has sections that are easy and some are more moderate, about 2.1km distance. If the volcano actively is erupting, nothing compares to the majesty of an erupting volcano. Flaming craters and fissures, gleaming rivers of molten rock, and a glowing field of lava make the time you will spend here unforgettable. Be sure to bring a drone or camera to capture this phenomenal event. If there is a major eruption, there may be age restrictions in place for the safety of any small children. Akureyri: Zipline Tour

6. Akureyri: Zipline Tour

Glerárgil (Glass River Canyon) runs straight through Akureyri, effectively cutting the town in half. You can cross the river via bridge or Zipline. We prefer Zipline! The tour is suitable for the whole family, a group of friends, couples and solo travellers. Anyone who seeks to experience a sense of freedome and excitement. We meet at our base location in the town of Akureyri, easily accessible by foot or vehicle. Our guides help you put on the safety gear and brief you about the tour and safety issues. From base we hike 2-3 min. to the first Zipline. One guide zips over the river first and gets ready to greet you on the landing platform. The second guide secures you on the Zipline. On the other side we hike 2 min. to the next Zipline and so on for 5 Ziplines. At the end of the 5th and last Zipline the hike back to base is ca. 10 minutes. The total tour takes from 1-2 hours depending on group size and level. When we get back to base our guides help you out of the safety gear again.

Our guide was fantastic and shared his adventures and the history of the glacier and ice caves. We were in a group of about 13 people including ourselves. The van ride was very crowded but getting to the ice caves relieved that experience. The hike to the caves was about 30 minutes and beautiful rocky and icy scenery. The ice caves were stunning. There were other groups but it wasn’t overly crowded. We were able to get photos with just the two of us and no one else in the background. I’d do it again, it was a great experience!

A really cool experience. A small hike to the baths, and because the baths are private, this is the only way in. Our guide had grown up in the area, and it was awesome hearing about the history of the area and the sustainability practices of the area as well. There were only about 8 people in the group. There are small changing rooms by the baths, and you can also borrow water shoes when you get there. A great way to experience some geothermal baths and also learning a lot. Highly recommend!

Wonderful experience to walk on this beautiful glacier. The ice cave is not very big, but still impressive! It was great. The guides speak very good English.

The tour was amazing! Guna (not sure how to spell their name) was upbeat and so informative. If you have a chance to go on this adventure, don’t miss it!

Our guide was extremely knowledgeable and we could tell how much he loved his job. The views and caves were spectacular and the hike was great!
