Our guide, Elizabeth, was well organized, and gave clear instructions for times and meeting points for each stop on the trip. Her historical knowledge of St-Michel, and events in French history during the construction and to the present day, was thorough and well-delivered. The only reason I rated the tour as 4 star, instead of 5, was because the lunch provided was disappointing: all tour participants were served the same meal consisting of a cheesy crepe, a thin 5cm square piece of cured salmon on a small bed of lettuce, and a shortcrust pie crust over a bowl of bland fish broth with two 1-inch pieces of white fish and a few specks of onion and zucchini. The dessert of creme brulee was ok. A choice of menu - in consideration that several people do not eat fish - could have been offered and serving portions should have been more generous. I could not help but notice that many lunches were left uneaten, or picked at, and most people enjoyed only the bread rolls served before the meal.
Excellent experience! Yes, it’s a long bus trip, but the coach was very comfortable. We stopped about halfway , each way , at a gas station for snacks and to stretch our legs. The meal was excellent! I do not understand what others have complained about.( maybe they just need to complain ?) The Mont is stunning! Our guide was very knowledgeable and obviously had a passion for the history of the monastery. There are a lot of stairs, so a certain amount of fitness makes it easier. Truly a fantastic site, met wonderful people and had glorious weather . An overall excellent day! Go, book the tour, spend the money. I am very glad I did !
Very informative and in depth tour of the main battle points. Stephan was an awesome guide and was very flexible with stopping whenever we found a bunker interesting AND still got us to the cementary well in time for taps. Definitely worth doing to enjoy this historical landmark to the fullest. SUGGESTION: I personally love small stories so maybe including more throughout the tour would make it even more breathtaking and personal. Overall an amazing trip by an amazing guide!
Absolutely a must see. But most of the excursion will be you sitting for hours. If I’m not mistaken, the drive is more than 4 hours one way and the tour of St Michel is only 3 hours. The guides are good. But speak up if the bus gets warm. Also they don’t announce it but there’s a bathroom in the bus. As all excursion with lunches, lower your expectations but the lunch in this one wasn’t bad.
we had an excellent lady guide, Mrs Gaëlle Lotton, who not only knew the History of the place perfectly well, but also how to tell it in an entertaining and interesting way. Despite the Covid-restrictions in place, we enjoyed our visit thoroughly (the more so as for once there were less people around, the masses of tourists during the summer normally being somewhat overwhelming)
