Visit Pont du Gard, one of the world’s best-preserved examples of Roman ingenuity. Its chequered history has also inspired numerous artists. The 2,000-year-old section of the Roman aqueduct once provided water to Nîmes. The highly photographed bridge was listed by UNESCO in 1985 as a World Heritage Site. Located between Montpellier, Marseille, and Avignon, this site is a real landmark of Provence and the south of France. With your ticket, gain access to the first level of the bridge, the museum, and the film to discover more about the history of the Ludo area specially designed for children, the open-air walk Mémoires de Garrigue, and the temporary exhibitions. Until October 1, 2023, dive into a world where the transparent meets the tangible with the temporary exhibition Light as Space! Explore the captivating works of artist Yasuhiro Chida. Discover the fascinating world of this renowned Japanese artist, through a one-of-a-kind immersive experience. The artist has created a universe where illusion and reality merge, inviting the public to interact with his bewitching and captivating installations. Pont du Gard is delighted to announce our brand new temporary exhibition entitled "Under the Pixels, Matter", which will be held on site from September 14, 2024 and until January 5, 2025 for the general public. This exhibition will highlight the work of four talented international artists, each exploring the intersection between digital art and material forms. Here is an overview of the works and artists presented: - Mona Young-Eun Kim: 5 works will be scattered in different outdoor spaces, on the Left Bank. These geometric totems will include QR codes allowing an augmented reality experience via smartphone. - Nicolas Tourte: 4 works will be exhibited in the dedicated exhibition room, as well as another at the reception. Her works are 3D structures, on which projections will be made. - Regina Silveira: A pioneer of digital art in Brazil, she will present two works in video-mapping in the exhibition room. - Ana Tavares: She will offer two video-mapping installations in the exhibition room, accompanied by a series of photographs. The exhibition will be accessible to all thanks to a free tour, with some works installed outside the interior spaces. This is included in the ticket price for the cultural spaces on sale. This completes the offer in the intermediate season for our visitors.

Take a stroll through the beautiful city of St-Rémy-de-Provence. Stop at the ancient Roman aqueduct Pont du Gard before returning to your meeting point. 

Begin your journey at Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, take a short walk through the city center. Next, enjoy picturesque views of the Provençal countryside heading south to the Les Baux de Provence – a fortified medieval village perched in Alpilles mountain range. Meander through the narrow stone streets of the historic center, viewing the town's many original 16th-century houses and main attractions such as the Museum of Santons, the Hôtel des Porcelets and St Vincent Church. Afterward, travel to your final stop, the Unesco-listed Pont du Gard. Considered an ancient work of art, this three-tiered construction is the highest of all elevated Roman aqueducts. View the perfectly preserved masterpiece of ancient engineering that once supplied water to the town of Nîmes. In winter period (from November 1st to March 31) the activity is provided from 1.30 pm am to 6.30 pm.

The ochre is a natural pigment which can be found in the soil and which is used for the painting and decoration of the houses. You will stroll in the narrow streets of this colorfull village. (Market on Thursday). A short drive will bring you to one of the most beautiful villages in France : Gordes. A panoramic photo stop will be arranged. The next stop will be in Fontaine de Vaucluse : walk up to the cave from which the River Sorgues emerges. Continue to the charming town of Saint-Rémy de Provence, where you can explore its historic its city center. Then, enjoy some free time in Les Baux de Provence to explore the medieval fortress perched on a rocky spur in the Alpilles region. The tour concludes with a visit to the Pont du Gard, one of the best-preserved Roman aqueducts. This full-day will return to Avignon in the middle of the day, lunch on your own during the day. In winter period (from November 1st to March 31) the activity is provided from 8.30 am to 6.30 pm (duration 10h00).

You’ll have the option to explore the city at your own pace: stroll through its medieval streets or dive into history by visiting the majestic Palais des Papes and the famous Saint-Bénezet Bridge also known as the Pont d'Avignon (tickets not included), both iconic landmarks in the region. The final leg of your journey takes you through the lush vineyards of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, a picturesque landscape where nature and winemaking traditions come together. The day culminates with a wine tasting at one of the estates of the region, before heading back to Marseille. Lunch on your own during the day. Visit of the charming medieval town of Uzès, founded during the Roman era and the site of an aqueduct that was built to supply the city of Nîmes. The Pont du Gard is the most well-known stretch of the aqueduct left standing. On this 5-hour program, you’ll see the traces of Roman civilization in Uzès as well as substantial monuments from the Middle Ages. Visit the famous 2,000-year-old Pont du Gard, a section of the Roman aqueduct that provided water to Nîmes. The highly photographed bridge was listed by UNESCO in 1985 as a World Heritage Site. You’ll discover the treasures of Nîmes, including the Coliseum that is considered to be second only to the Coliseum in Rome. Its Roman amphitheater is still in use and today has a seating capacity of 10,000.

Pickup in front of Hotel Le Bristol in Avignon (address: 44 Cours Jean Jaurès 84000 Avignon) or around (contact me if you don’t stay within Avignon itself). Then we will go to Orange for a stop at the Roman Arch of Triumph for some pictures and explanations about the history of the monument. After this, you will visit the Roman Theatre of Orange with audio guides in the language you want. You will enjoy the picnic with local products from farms only and the Pont du Gard in the background (between April and October only), before walking around and on the magnificent Pont du Gard, a former bridge aqueduct. To finish, we will go to Nimes for a quick stop in front of the Maison Carrée, a former temple dedicated to the grandsons of the Emperor Augustus, before visiting the Amphitheater with an audio guide in the language you want (from November to March, it will only be a walk around the amphitheater, for some pictures). Drop off in the late afternoon at the same place where I picked you up in the morning.
