While not a scuba certification course, PADI Discover Scuba Diving is a quick and easy introduction to what it takes to explore the underwater world. This experience will take place in the sea, in depth of 6 to max. 12 meters depth. You must be in reasonable physical health. This is an introduction to scuba that takes about 2-3 hours and it includes the basic instruction and one dive from a boat. You can expect to see different colorful fish of the Indian Ocean, such as parrot fish, lion fish, groupers, banner fish, triggerfish, if you get lucky also stingrays or sea turtles. The scuba diving experience takes place on one of the dive sites around Nilaveli with maximum depth of 12 meters. In general we have on the east coast shallow dive sites with the best corals in Sri Lanka. The underwater visibility is around 10-15 meters.
First you start in the classroom with theoretical part which includes PADI video and a short quiz. You learn basics about scuba diving and practise diving skills. Then you have a comprehensive but compact dive and boat briefing with your group. This consists of important information about the dive sites, safety procedures, attractions of the dive site, marine life, signs & signals.
Time passes quickly underwater as you are surrounded by all the fish. You will enjoy spectacular marine life and first time breathing underwater. One dive usually takes a maximum of 35 to 45 minutes depending on your breathing and air consumption. If you loved your first experience, you could also do a second dive to get even more comfortable and enjoy the underwater world. If you have more time during your holidays, you might consider doing the PADI Open Water Course which takes 4 days to complete. Your Discover Scuba Diving experience will credit towards your first PADI Course in our diving centre!
We start everyday at 1:30pm and the meeting point for all activities is at our diving centre Divinguru Nilaveli.
