Podgorica: Ostrog Monastery and Niagara Waterfall Tour

2. Podgorica: Ostrog Monastery and Niagara Waterfall Tour

You will begin your tour by visiting the most famous waterfalls near the capital, Niagara Waterfalls. On the way to the falls, you will be able to see the Cijevna River Canyon, which was formerly the border between Montenegro and the Ottoman Empire until 1912. The waterfall was named after the Niagara waterfalls in Canada. Being much smaller, the waterfall is a great attraction for "Podgorica", and a place to rest on hot summer days.  Sometimes during the summer, the waterfalls dry up, so you get the opportunity to visit Zdrebaonik monastery and Cuk camp for coffee break in the middle of the forest... These options are always available at the client's request. Kayaking from the camp at request and extra fees. After visiting the waterfall, the road will lead you up to the Ostrog Monastery. The beauty of this monastery, made by St.Vasilije, was written by Napoleon’s colonel and French commander Viala de Somier, who visited the monastery in 1810. He wrote a book about Montenegro before published it in Paris 10 years later. Ostrog Monastery also has relics of a boy named Stanko from Podvraca Village, who was killed by the Turks in 1714. From the terraces of this monastery, there are beautiful views of the Bjelopavlic plain and the Zeta River. In the Upper Monastery, all believers are provided with a bottle of holy water and oil. The monastery complex consists of a church, a large conch, and a series of ground-level buildings that once served as classrooms. The whole complex is surrounded by a high stone fence. At the conclusion of your tour, you will be returned to your point of origin.

Montenegro: Private Cetinje/Dajbabe/Ostrog Monasteries Tour

3. Montenegro: Private Cetinje/Dajbabe/Ostrog Monasteries Tour

The first thing we will visit is the Cetinje Monastery.. The monastery is very important because it represents the epicenter of culture, literacy and education in Montenegro. It was demolished and reconstructed several times, and after one invasion by Suleiman Pasha, no one was able to restore its beauty. The Cetinje monastery is also extremely important due to the fact that Christian treasures are kept in its modest chambers. Segments of the Holy Cross, the hand of John the Baptist, and the relics of Saint Peter of Cetinje are preserved in the monastery, making it one of the most spiritually rich guardians of the Christian world. Words are superfluous, so go along the Cetinje Monastery and pay your respects to the greatest Christian relics. By visiting the Dajbaba monastery, breathe in the spirit of harmony and get to know the primordial religion. Under the Dajbaba hill, not far from the capital of Montenegro - Podgorica, is the Dajbaba monastery. This monastery was built in 1897 on the basis of a miraculous vision that the shepherd Petko had, dedicated to the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. What is fascinating is the fact that the monastery itself is carved into the rock and that the space in the cave was originally and only used. It existed so that space could be expanded later, which gave it the shape of a church. At its base, the Dajbabe monastery has an inscribed church in the shape of a cross. The entrance porch with bell towers is the only part of the monastery that is outside the rock of the actual cave. Inside the monastery, the relics of Saint Simeon of Dajbap are preserved. The monastery is special because of the harmony between man and nature, between what God created and what God created. On this occasion, the man understood the message and did not destroy nature, but adopted it. For the end, we leave the most visited and famous monastery in Montenegro. It is dedicated to Saint Vasilij Ostroška, who lived in the 17th century, and whose relics are still here today. It is believed that his holy body was found intact, seven years after his death. It is carved into a steep rock, at an incredible 900 meters above sea level. The monastery is known for the miracles that still take place today, and it has become one of the most visited places of pilgrimage that gathers believers from all over the world, regardless of religion. After that, we go to the Koliba restaurant for lunch. There you will have the opportunity to try the traditional dishes of Montenegro. On the way back, we will take a photo break with a view of the sea. This tour greatly exceeded my expectations! We were driven around in an excellently-maintained comfortable minibus around the roads of Montenegro with a kind, insightful guide who made sure everyone was comfortable. I don't consider myself a nature guy, but I was blown away by the incredible sights that the driver took us. Because this tour was marketed by a nearby hostel, the tour has plenty of cool travelers who are great company and are now my new friends. I recommend this tour as a must-do for any traveler to Montenegro.

As someone who doesn’t do a lot of organized trips, this was definitely a positive suprize! The trip had a nice balance of activities, sightseeing, history, culture, food and good old fun. And even the long car rides didn’t feel that long at all. Our guide (Milos) was very knowledgeable and charming, and seemed genuinely passionate about the history and culture of Montenegro.

It was a great tour for first-time travellers since the trip served as introduction of all the amazing places in Montenegro. We spent relatively much time in the van and it was all worth it. The driver was excellent driving along the contour lines. I can imagine visiting the spots again in the future and spend more time enjoying the nature.

We had a fantastic time on our trip to the north of Montenegro. Stunning scenery and all the travel accounted for. Only slight issue is having to wait for other guests who are late and get lost..! Our tour guide Milos was fab and informative. Make sure you go on the zipwire!! We can’t wait to go back to Montenegro.

The trip was perfectly organized, our guide Slavko was friendly and highly professional. We enjoyed the trip a lot!
