Hosted by me, Aisha, a home-cook, who loves eating, cooking and teaching the beauty of Nigerian food. We start off exploring a bustling local market in the beach neighbourhood of Oniru, where we would explore and shop for ingredients. Experience first hand bartering and the organised chaos of life as an everyday Nigerian in the market. You’ll learn about the different types of spices used in Nigerian cuisine, choose your own fresh meats, and of course get photo opportunities (hold your phone tight!) We will then go back to the kitchen, where you’ll be taken through step by step, hands on cooking of the most popular flavours in Nigerian cuisine, with dishes like Jollof rice, Stew, Egusi, Fufu, puff puff, meat pie, Peppersoup. You’ll be guided through the best preparation methods that’ll enable you take this knowledge back to your own kitchen! Finally, you’ll be able to take home your locally made Adire (tie-dye) apron used and a PDF recipe book containing measurements and instructions for the dishes made in the class!

Day 1: Guests arrival in Lagos and Transfer to their hotel. Day 2: Visit to Nike Art Galleria, Lekki Art and Craft Market then Lekki Conservative Center, and Terra Kulture before driving to Hakuna-Matata. Day 3 Visit Freedom Park, The Cathedral, the Central Mosque, Tafawa Balewa Square where Nigeria’s independence was first celebrated in 1960. Visit the Independence house, an edifice built in the early 1960's as a symbol of Nigeria's independence. Visit Campos district. An Afro-Brazilian district, where slaves freed by Saros in Brazil (Agudas) settled in when they returned to Lagos. Visit the National Museum and John Randle Center for Yoruba Culture. Day 4: Visit & use Nigeria’s first and only full-electricity powered train at Marina Lagos for a 35 minutes train ride to Mile 2, from where we will travel by road for 1hr 30min to Badagry. At Badagry, we shall visit the slave Museum, Gberefu Island (Point of No return), Velekete Slave Market, Alhaji William Abass Sariki Barracoon. Day 5: 2hrs trip to Abeokuta & visit Olumo rock, the National Museum and Olusegun Obansanjo Presidential Library. A place established to demonstrate and deepen democracy, an historic and academic centre established as a national archive for the preservation of National documents. Visit Itoku Market, where vendors sell the famous Adire fabric & fetish stalls where local medicines are sold. Visit Oyan Dam, a dam that crosses the Oyan river, a tributary of the Ogun river, used primarily to supply fresh water to Lagos. We travel afterwards for 1hr 30min to Ibadan and stay Overnight. Day 6: Visit Iyake Nature suspended Lake, then a short ride to the National Museum of Unity, and be on our way to Oshogbo. On the way, we will visit lle Ife. A town known to be the cradle of Yoruba civilization, where the founding deities Oduduwa and Obatala began the creation of the world, as directed by the paramount deity Olodumare.. We will visit the Palace of the Ooni of Ife. Then Ife Museum, where the statue of Queen Moremi Ajasoro, a prominent female warrior that saved Ife from her enemies and the historic Oranmiyan monolith, where we will join "elders of the land" for a drink and ablution to the forefathers. Day 7: Continue to Oshogbo the main city of Osun State. On arrival, we will tour the dense forest of the Osun Sacred Grove. Regarded as the abode of the goddess of fertility Osun, one of the pantheons of Yoruba gods. The landscape of the grove and its meandering river is dotted with sanctuaries and shrines, sculptures, and art works in honor of Osun and other deities. After visiting the grove, we shall tour the Ijesha water fall before driving to Mama Susan Wenger's house, Nike art center, Jimoh’s gallery before exploring the local market, after which we shall have a 3hrs 30min trip to Lagos. Day 8: Relaxation at Landmark beach and departure.

Slave Trade Tour: Badagry Black Heritage Adventure

The story of 400 years of slavery cannot be told without a visit to the former slave port. This is a private tour to explore the former slave quarters and see the preserved relics at the Slave Museums. This tour affords you the opportunity to experience first-hand what really happened and how these things happened during the slave trade regime. Many people known today as Black Americans have actually traced their roots to Africa to see and write their own narratives. Your tour will include a boat ride to the Point of No Return (Gberefu Island) where the slaves were routed through to the ships to foreign countries. During the tour, there will be a brief stop at the ‘Attenuation Well’ where slaves were made to drink magical waters that made them forget who they’re. There will also be a stopover at the beach front of the Point of No Return for a little rest and reflection.
