Our trip was excellent! Antonio was the most welcoming guide we've had in Sicily! He knew all about volcanoes and the region of Etna. His depth of knowledge was impressive. He welcomed questions and his English was superb. I was nervous about this trip due to the heights and unpredictability of the volcano, but Antonio explained all of that away for me. Be prepared for a little bit of hiking on a bit of squishy surface as the volcanic lava is crushed and can be slippery. Everyone on our bus was able to make the short hike up. Antonio gave us breaks while providing information about our surroundings. Regarding the ticket, when you climb the stairs to the ticket area, just go around to the left side of the building as if you already had your ticket and you were going to go. There is a door just there on your right which says something like "official" go in there and you will get your bar code scanned and they will hand you paper ticket to go. Be at the ticket office at 8:30!!
It was hard to hear the guide at Times due to the high winds but a great experience to share with my family. It’s super cold up closer to the top, dress warm and wear eye sunnies/glasses the debri in the air is tough I think the eyes.
