Full description
Learn all about the unique history of Battery Park on a 30-minute guided tour with an experienced local guide. Located at the southern tip of Manhattan Island, the 25-acre green park has a varied history and many classic monuments to explore. Find out essential facts surrounding the Battery Cannon, Battery Oval, Coast Guard Memorial, Bosque Gardens and the circular Bosque Fountain. Finish up the walking tour at Castle Clinton, built in anticipation of the War of 1812. Positioned in the middle of the park, the castle acts as a centerpiece of the revitalization efforts of the park. Your guide will then assist you through the various procedures to board the ferry for Liberty Island. Benefit from priority boarding and save precious time. Cross New York Harbor to the Statue of Liberty. Built by Gustave Eiffel, Lady Liberty was a gift to the United States from the people of France. Take a self-guided tour with audio headsets that come in multiple languages. Travel over to Ellis Island to absorb yourself in the moving stories of the immigrant experience at the Ellis Island Immigration Museum. It is thought that at least 40% of all current US citizens can trace one or more of their ancestors to Ellis Island. Pick up your multilingual audio guide on arrival and explore independently. Journey through the 60-plus years that the facility processed new arrivals at the start of their lives in America. Upgrade to a fully-escorted tour and listen to your English-speaking guide bring the history of Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty to life. The woman who led us on the tour of battery park was wonderful. she was very knowledgeable about the government, Hamilton, and the statue of liberty. I feel that my trip was better for going on the pre-tour with GYG. we didn't have to wait in any long lines, we had great service and the staff was very professional.

Although the statue of liberty is excellent and we learnt so much about it and Ellis Island, we actually ended up doing the tour as the instructions were not very clear on where to pick up your ticket, which ended up being in a Starbucks!! So we nearly missed the trip, and when we did eventually find the meeting point the guide was extremely rude and complaining about us to the other people on the tour and then kept saying sorry I forgot you was there when she realised we was there! After lots of comments about us! And we were then not allowed to join the tour with several other late comers which ended up working out quite well as some of the information she gave us was condradicting the information in the museum! Overall though the tour was excellent

It was very cold which made it hard to concentrate on what our guide was saying. The statue is amazing as is the history. The site is easy to access by the tour boats. But, there is far too much security, it was the same as going through an airport, not once but THREE times. Enough!
