Full description
Avoid wandering aimlessly around the extensive collections of Metropolitan Museum in New York with this guided tour. Discover the museum's hottest attractions with a carefully-planned itinerary that starts in Ancient Egypt. View perfectly preserved Ancient Egyptian tombs, and tiny dioramas that show what life was like in the times of Tutankhamun. Learn about their burial rituals in the Egyptian mummies area, and see the Met’s mascot “William.”  Continue to the Temple of Dendur, and discover a temple of Ancient Egypt smack in the middle of Central Park. Hear gossip about this and other exhibits, such as how Jackie O procured the Temple of Dendur for the Met. Be enthralled by tales about the armor of Britain’s infamous King Henry VIII and how some think the Antioch Chalice may be the Holy Grail. Admire ancient Greek statues and Roman frescoes, before moving to the exotic exhibits from Papua New Guinea. Marvel at beautifully carved Bisj poles collected by a Rockefeller, at the cost of his life. Head to the 2nd floor to soak in some of Claude Monet’s dreamlike “Water Lillies.” Be energized by the expressive works of Vincent Van Gogh and inspired by a bronze of Rodin’s “Thinker.”

Our guide was truly phenomenal. The two hours she spent with us flew by. She has so much genuine passion for her work, it was refreshing spending time with her. Each of her vignettes were illuminating. What was nice was she combined excellent commentary of the exhibits at the museum, with some very touching and memorable personal observations. It is rare to form a connection with a guide, where you believe and feel the genuineness and authenticity of her love for the museum, for the artifacts, and her work. You’re very lucky to have her as a guide. And for two hours, we were too.

Two hours, very well organized. Came away with a new appreciation of art. A suggestion: The staff at the main help desk on the Met's ground floor was unaware of the tour. I then asked the tour director of the Met, an employee of the Met, where the tour assembled. She said that she was not aware of "outside agencies" tours. Unless there is a reason you are hiding the tour from employees, they should be made aware. Another suggestion: A companion wanted to take the tour at the time of the tour. She could not be accommodated according to the tour manager. Walk-ups should be encouraged, not turned away. Please clarify and emphasize that this tour does not include general admission to the Met. We had to stand in a long line when we could have purchased admission tickets online ahead of the day of the tour.

We went on a Tuesday, which is apparently the least crowded day of the week for the Met. Some places were busy, some we had a whole room to ourselves, which was amazing. Audio devices where we could hear the guide through a headset would be nice, but we were still able to hear Roberta. She was an amazing guide, and I would absolutely recommend this tour if you want to visit the Met.
