Day 1: NEW YORK – PHILADELPHIA – WASHINGTON DC Depart New York through New Jersey and Pennsylvania and to the city of brotherly love Philadelphia. Arriving in the historic area of Philadelphia, visit the famous Liberty Bell, one of the symbols of freedom in America, Constitution square, and Congress Hall. Stroll Elfreth’s alley, the oldest continuously inhabited street in America. Continue on a panoramic tour of Philadelphia that includes the financial district, Benjamin Franklin Parkway, Historic Philadelphia, and more. Depart Philadelphia and see the famous “Rocky Steps” and then continue east to Lancaster county home of the Amish people. Enjoy an authentic Amish Buggy ride through the Amish farm country. Learn how Amish culture survived centuries without the benefits of technology, to this day their towns survive without the central power and sewage systems, that modern civilization take for granted. Learn how the Amish adapted, incorporating technology to create farms that are self-sufficient and make use of renewable sources of energy. After the ride, visit the marketplace where you can shop for handmade arts crafts and products. In the late afternoon, depart east for an evening arrival in Washington DC. Day 2: WASHINGTON DC – NEW YORK Start the day with a visit of Thomas Jefferson Memorial, by the Tidal Basin, surrounded by famous Japanese cherry blossom trees. The United States are not just around the corner (obviously I am referring to those who live in Italy). For this, I wanted to see as many places as possible once I arrived in New York. The two-day trip offers the opportunity to see the city of Philadelphia, Amish Village (both in one day) and Washington (in the second day). The American capital, much quieter, cleaner than the chaotic but fascinating New York, is a city full of history, monuments and museums that are definitely worth visiting. Our guide, James, a polyglot Brazilian guy, was very knowledgeable in telling us and guiding us. The visits to the various places were fairly short and quick (unfortunately also the breaks), but this was because they wanted to show us as many places as possible. In fact, in one day we were able to see the main things in Washington.

Interesting excursion

The excursion is interesting, I was a bit disappointed visiting the Amish I thought I would see something of their life, in reality it is just a ride in a wheelchair and then stop. The Windham tree was a little too old and above all in a position away from everything. There is just a restaurant nearby. It would have been much better if it had been in Washington not far away.

Absolutely fantastic

We’ve done a few bus tours now but this was by far our favourite. Stefano the guide was knowledgeable, friendly and organised. Our bus driver Devon was great too, getting us everywhere on time and making it a really comfortable journey. Stefano speaks both Italian and English and the two other nationalities, Japanese and Iranian, had their own guides too. It made it feel like a nice, exclusive experience because we were small groups and he made sure we were all close so we could hear well. Each of the stops and points of interest were exactly what you would want to stop off and see in the time we had. Despite it being a whirlwind trip, nothing felt too rushed and equally it didn’t feel like we stopped for an unnecessarily long time either. Our only criticism if pushed is that the hotel stopover is quite far from anything. We thought it would be in DC so we could explore that evening but it’s technically in Maryland so eating options are extremely limited. Worth paying for cab to DC.
