Live tour guide

  • Enjoy a walk through New Orleans’ elegant Garden District
  • Visit the American section of town that was built to rival the architectural splendor of the Creole French Quarter
  • Learn about the historic district known for its marvelous examples of Greek revival and Italianate architecture
Full description
A few miles upriver from the French Quarter is one of the most well-preserved historic neighborhoods in America - the Garden District. Like many New Orleans neighborhoods, it began as a plantation, later subdivided and sold to a rising mercantile class. Learn about how newly wealthy in the years following the Louisiana Purchase, these Americans built estates to outshine the Creole’s French Quarter. As you walk along your guide will point out these architectural styles and features and share the stories of those who lived behind these grand facades. The homes of former Kings and Queens of Mardi Gras are located here, as well as the home of the premier family of football - the Mannings - where Archie lives and Peyton and Eli grew up. Other celebrity residents are actor John Goodman, and the former residence of celebrated author Anne Rice. Toby’s Corner, the oldest house in the area (built in 1838), can also be found here.

So cold, and still loved it

I enjoy looking at people's houses, especially historical ones. There was a lot of great places to see on this tour, and I loved walking through the neighborhood. It was freakishly cold the day we went, which made it a little miserable. I would make sure you're going to have good weather before booking.

Joan is an excellent tour guide!

The guide was somewhat knowledgeable. Southern bias overwhelming.

The guide understood the streets and houses of the Garden District, but did not seem to understand Civil War history.
