Full description
A few miles upriver from the French Quarter is one of the most well-preserved historic neighborhoods in America - the Garden District. Like many New Orleans neighborhoods, it began as a plantation, later subdivided and sold to a rising mercantile class. Learn about how newly wealthy in the years following the Louisiana Purchase, these Americans built estates to outshine the Creole’s French Quarter.

As you walk along your guide will point out these architectural styles and features and share the stories of those who lived behind these grand facades. Enjoy exclusive access to the Opera Guild Home, circa 1865, on the only tour that takes you behind the wrought iron fence and inside one of the beautiful mansions of the Garden District! See how a skating rink, built for the 1884 World’s Fair, found a new life.

The homes of former Kings and Queens of Mardi Gras are located here, as well as the home of the premier family of football - the Mannings - where Archie lives and Peyton and Eli grew up. Other celebrity residents are actor John Goodman, and the former residence of celebrated author Anne Rice. Toby’s Corner, the oldest house in the area (built in 1838), can also be found here.
