Full description
The New Orleans Garden District is a beautiful and ornate neighborhood with gorgeous, historic houses and mansions dating back to the antebellum days of the Old South. This historic neighborhood is comprised of the world’s largest collection of 19th-century southern-style mansions, some of which are still known by the names of families that built them. This whole area was once a number of plantations, eventually sold off in parcels. Originally the Garden District was developed with only a couple of houses per block, each surrounded by a large garden, giving the district its name. Bring your camera! This two hour walking tour is best enjoyed on foot in order to fully enjoy the exquisite examples of quintessential New Orleans architecture: white columns, scroll work of a cast iron fence, or a romantic Romeo and Juliet style gallery. You'll also visit Lafayette Cemetery No. 1, a historic 19th-century cemetery with above-ground tombs & statuary characteristic of the area.

Carolyn was THE BEST tour guide! She was very knowledgeable and also very personable. This has been our favorite tour in New Orleans. The Garden District is beautiful but the information provided during the tour elevated the experience. It was great to hear stories from a resident who obviously loves the city and the people who live here.

We took the Garden District walking tour in New Orleans with Diane. It was great. Her level of knowledge was incredible and we didnt even miss going inside the cemetery. She went above and beyond to make things interesting and answer all questions. I would highly recommend this tour and our guide Diane.

    Best if you're into architecture.

My tour guide was knowledgeable with his subject matter, but I feel like he was somewhat hampered in the fact that cemetery Lafayette #1 is currently closed to the public. It felt like that was probably normally a large part of the tour and, lacking it, he had to fluff a bit by pointing out random facts about architecture and trees(!) for most of the trip. Still, he kept it moving and ended up giving us an extra half hour as he showed off celebrity homes.
