What to Expect
"Gone with the Wind" brings to mind images of grandiose plantations, extravagant costumes, and a society at war with itself. It is a tragic tale of North and South, and on today's tour, we'll venture deep into the heart of the beautiful plantations that make Antebellum Louisiana so marvelous.
We'll start at River Road and hear about Whitney, St. Joseph and Evergreen plantations. Your guided tours will show you the ways these plantations operated and explain the grandeur of their architecture. Next we'll visit Oak Alley, the Grande Dame of River road, and admire the jewel of Greek Revival architecture. These perfectly preserved plantations harken to another time, and their stories will inspire you.
Next we head downriver to the 200 year old Laura Plantation. This Creole plantation has an interesting historic slave quarters around the sugar cane fields, and will leave you with a deep appreciation of the former times.
